Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Fay.
Heather, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
It all started when I was young. Gravitating towards all things music, I wrote songs and played the piano among other instruments. As life went on, I joined band and choir to dive deeper into my passion. I always knew deep down that music is not only what I do, but who I am. That understanding and determination was the foundation of what later became an entire career.
In search of an entertainment career, I got my hands on the one thing I could do in my hometown, Kansas City, MO. Modeling. I modeled in runway shows and print ad/catalogue campaigns. What was a temporary first step to me ended up being a crucial step in becoming a professional “brand”. Modeling in my hometown gave my brand an identity and helped to create the founding platform for me to launch my music career off of.
After reaching a certain point within my hometown I knew it was time to branch out and go for the gold. It was time to do what I always wanted to do for a living. Music. I wanted to begin my music career in an environment that catered to that type of talent so I migrated west to Los Angeles, CA. In Los Angeles, I released my first two singles independently and gained traction with each one. The second single ultimately getting me signed to the deal I’m signed to today.
Under my own label, Heather Fay with Bungalo Records and Universal Music Group Dist. I have begun my professional career as a singer, songwriter, and producer. I have co-written records with Grammy award-winning writers and producers. Most importantly, I have developed my skill sets and expanded my catalogue. As we neared the time to release the first single, I looked into my catalogue and picked the perfect song. “The One” which is available on all platforms as well as my website at https://www.iamheatherfay.com/music.
Having turned my dreams into a reality, I am now living and breathing music day in and day out. The grind never stops and it is truly a lifestyle. I write, producer, and record vocals on a day to day basis and couldn’t be happier. Everything is off to a great start. I cannot wait to see what lies ahead.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
For the most part, it has been smooth sailing. The struggles I’ve run into are the double standards women face in this industry. At times, all odds can be stacked against you and you have to prove yourself double. Not everybody respects the woman being the boss and making the executive decisions and this can obviously be very frustrating and disheartening. I focus on my craft and what I can control and move forward on a positive, productive note regardless of the challenges I may face. I am also incredibly thankful for those who have respectfully embraced me as an artist and creator. They have no idea how encouraging that has been for me as I take on one of the toughest industries.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
My company, Heather Fay is a music company/record label that I produce, write, and release my own records through. Thus far we are proud to have released the label’s first single, “The One.” This single has been charting at number 1 in Europe and has received amazing reviews and support worldwide. We strive to do what’s best for the artist and it has worked out well for us. Being the independent underdog has put us in the position to create a new business model of our own.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Not one single thing. Everything has been a learning experience and has helped me grow and evolve into the businesswoman/creative that I am today. I have learned to embrace and love all parts of the journey including the challenging parts because they all serve a greater purpose when it’s all said and done. Every part of your journey molds you into who you’re meant to become and it is a beautiful process.
