Meet Heather Finks of House of Beauty Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Finks.

Hi Heather, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a low-income household with limited resources and little guidance. Success was not something that was easily recognized by our family. At the age of 14, I became pregnant with my daughter and life was no longer about me. I did not want to be a statistic destined to fail. Being a teenage mother fueled my desire to escape from the cycle of deprivation generations of my family had faced before me. It was hard work coupled with a sheer force of will that drove my success.

With little money to my name and with a small child to raise, I spent all of my free time working and studying. I had no direction or influence on what career path to pursue. However, I could not shake the desire to build something from nothing. I acted on faith and founded my first company at the age of 22. It wasn’t much, but it was mine and that meant everything. From there, I continued my college education while maintaining my small business. In 2015, I switched gears and took another leap of faith when founding The Browtini Bar- one of the first microblading companies in Fort Worth. By this time, I had earned two undergraduate degrees with focus on both business and Nursing. In 2017, I earned my Master’s in Nursing specializing in Aesthetic Medicine. The Browtini Bar went from operating out of a single office to a fully occupied multiple-room company offering multiple modalities of beauty/aesthetic treatments. I rebranded in 2020 to House of Beauty, which is what it is known as today.

House of Beauty Fort Worth provides non-surgical aesthetic treatments with a focus on natural-beauty-driven treatments. I believe beauty is defined by our own unique features in combination with inner confidence. My mission is to empower women and men through conservative aesthetic approaches using advanced aesthetic techniques.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
My journey has never been smooth sailing; however, the challenges have been incredible learning opportunities that I look back on with much gratitude.

When I started my first business, I was completely unprepared for the hurdles that came my way. I had zero clue they were even approaching until I was tripping over my own feet. I constantly felt unprepared, overwhelmed, and exhausted. My expectation for smooth sailing was overhauled by much turbulence, and I wanted to throw in the towel more times than I can count. One “learning opportunity” that comes to mind is my stubbornness to do everything on my own and wanting to be perfect. I realized; you cannot have both. The best example is when I attempted to build my own website. As someone who identifies as “technologically dysfunctional”, I can admit to this being a horrible idea. I spent countless hours watching tutorial after tutorial on website design. Honestly, I don’t know who in their right mind would think this is a good idea. Turns out, who was me, and I could not have been more wrong. I could have saved so much time, effort, and money by outsourcing this to an expert. So, learn from my mistake and delegate to elevate. Also, learn the art of being a master of improvisation. Being a successful entrepreneur means making bold decisions with incomplete information and pivoting to a different direction quickly when necessary.

My best advice for other entrepreneurs is that in order to be successful, you must fail. To fail is to learn and to learn is to grow. Learning through failure is an entrepreneurial rite of passage. Embrace the suck, extract the lessons, and continue to dream BIG.

We’ve been impressed with House of Beauty Fort Worth, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
House of Beauty is home to several technicians trained in various services including injectables, facials, brow/lash services, and more. You can be assured that every person operating within our establishment will provide you with the safest and most up-to-date aesthetic services.

As an Aesthetic Nurse Practitioner, I feel very much like an artist where the syringes are my paints and the client’s face, my canvas. I learned early on of the societal pressures people face to meet a level of perfectionism that simply does not exist. I strive to instill confidence by highlighting the unique features individuals already have to define their beauty. Aging is a privilege that should not be covered up. With aesthetic treatments, clients should feel like the best versions of themselves possible at the age they are. I set myself apart by keeping them refreshed and never overdone or unnatural. I am committed to always learning the most up-to-date techniques in order to achieve this.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I am not stopping any time soon. My mind is constantly at work, brainstorming what else I can do or add to my expertise so that I can build my business more each day. Ultimately, I want House of Beauty to be a household name. I aim to build an empire so that my three children never have to face the same struggles I did growing up. I want them to look up to me as a role model and know that anything is possible if you do the work.
