Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather and James Tognazzini.
Heather and James, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Our family relocated to the Frisco area in spring of 2014. As much as we enjoy North Texas and feel at home here, we started experiencing allergies we never had previously. We began taking over the counter medications regularly but knew there had to be a better, more natural remedy.
One day we discovered “dry salt therapy” through an internet search and it just made such sense. After trying several different treatment spas (some in different states), we knew this was the answer for not only allergies but so many other ailments. In addition, the extreme relaxation, deeper breathing and better sleep at night convinced us that we had to bring this treatment to our community and share it with our friends and neighbors.
So, we left jobs and job opportunities and decided to embark on a new family endeavor…The Salt Retreat. We spent countless hours envisioning and planning what we wanted The Salt Retreat to look like and feel like for our clients. We opened our doors on May 19, 2018, and held a grand opening just two days after receiving our Certificate of Occupancy from the City of Frisco. It was a wild ride!
It is our goal to combine the wonderful therapeutic aspects of salt therapy in a beautiful spa-like setting while providing our customers the utmost appreciation and care they deserve.
Has it been a smooth road?
Commercial construction and the timeline challenges that it brings. We have realized there are many parts to starting a new business that ends up beyond your personal control. We had prepaid/preprinted Grand Opening advertising with dates in advance and we did everything in our power to make it happen. The City of Frisco gave us our certificate of occupancy on a Thursday afternoon – we moved in furnishings, decorated, set up systems and opened our doors on a Saturday morning for Grand Opening. We saw over 120+ clients on those first two days and it was a monumental feat. We would probably never put ourselves in that position again, but it actually worked out.
Another challenge is that we were the first tenants to open in our retail center. Many other shops are still under construction, so we are not able to take full advantage of the foot traffic just yet. On a positive side, we have some great neighbors and when everyone is open, we will be right in the middle of a very popular site.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with The Salt Retreat – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
The Salt Retreat specializes in dry salt therapy, also known as halotherapy. We are the very first dry salt therapy center in Frisco, and one of only two dedicated salt therapy centers in the DFW metroplex. Dry salt therapy is a drug-free, 100% natural and holistic approach to help minimize the symptoms of many respiratory and skin conditions. In addition to salt therapy, we carry a full line of natural salt and mineral-based skin care products as well as pure Himalayan salt lamps.
Widely used for many years in Eastern Europe, dry salt therapy has been utilized in the US for less than a decade. It is gaining in widespread popularity as more and more people and practitioners are recognizing its healing benefits. We are genuinely passionate about what we do, and nothing makes us happier than when our clients report feeling better and healthier!
Here’s how it works: while a client relaxes in one of our salt rooms, a machine called a halo generator grinds up pharmaceutical grade salt (99.99% pure) into tiny particles that become airborne when dispersed into the treatment room. The dry salt particles are inhaled deeply into the lungs to help relieve inflammation, loosen congestion, and allow easier and improved breathing.
Because salt is both anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory, it helps to open up the airways and cleans out dust, pollutants and other allergens. In addition to breathing in the salt, the tiny particles land on the skin and help relieve symptoms of sore, flakey, red and irritated skin associated with psoriasis and eczema.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We love the vibrancy of Frisco. Our city is a leader in business and economic growth. The people who live here are friendly and welcoming and really care about cultivating a sense of community.
Frisco is gaining many accolades and was just recently named as Money magazine’s #1 place to live in 2018. We couldn’t agree more!
