Today we’d like to introduce you to Allison Byrd-Haley.
Allison is a native Texan. She grew up in Plano with her parents and sister. Allison’s caring nature through her childhood leads her into adulthood where she went into healthcare. In 1998, when her second child became diagnosed with cancer she took all her love and knowledge she had to take care of him. By the grace of God he recovered and for 10 years she raised her two children as a single parent until she meets her wonderful husband.
In 2011, Allison’s mom was given the awful news that she had terminal cancer and Allison for the 3 months of treatment went to every appointment to make sure her mother got the best care. Allison was determined after her passing to always do something to give back. A few years after her mother’s passing she started her nonprofit Heavenly Mimi. The blessing of having an organization that can help is one of her purposes in life. Allison believes that we have one life and all of us need to make a difference.
Has it been a smooth road?
The main struggle is getting grant approval. Newer nonprofits do not get approved as much as more established nonprofits. When I have been approved the monies do not last as long as needed to help cancer patients in need.
That is where have donations come in regularly which can be difficult due to life happening. People will stop donation. Last thing is getting more people to attend events since there are so many other things happening in Dallas.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Heavenly Mimi story. Tell us more about the business.
Heavenly Mimi helps anyone at any age during their cancer journey.
Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years? Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
At this time Heavenly Mimi only helps in Texas. 5-10 years from now I want to be nationwide!
