Meet Holly Bellomy of Holly Bellomy Interiors

Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Bellomy.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Holly. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have a BA in early childhood development and I taught elementary school before staying home with my children. After several years of being out of the workforce, I decided that I needed to start my own business but I had no idea what that would be.

I received a local magazine that had an article about home staging. My interest was piqued because I have always moved furniture, painted, sewn drapes, and did a lot of DIY in my homes and in my friends’ homes. After a little research, I knew that a home staging business was the perfect fit. It suited my creative side, my desire to help others as well as the opportunity to collaborate with Realtors and contractors.

In 2006, I started my home staging business which naturally grew to include interior design. Now, I offer home staging consultations for occupied homes however, the majority of my time is spent on interior design projects.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I started my business before HGTV made home staging popular! It was a challenge to communicate the value of staging to the sellers that I was working with. The sellers had an emotional connection with their home and didn’t want to make changes such as packing photos or rearranging furniture. They didn’t want to spend money to make improvements or updates for something such as new bedding or paint for a room. When the recession hit, houses lingered on the market and staging became invaluable and sellers decided that they needed to do whatever it took to sell their house. With the rise in popular staging shows, sellers became familiar with the art and the value of home staging and working with a pro.

I established a very good reputation as a home stager so the rebranding and transitioning of my image and business to interior design took some time.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Holly Bellomy Interiors – what should we know?
I enjoy furnishing rooms from top to bottom and selecting materials and finishes for kitchen remodels. I am known for designing rooms that look and feel happy. I use color, texture, and pattern to create my rooms and I like a minimal amount of accessories and furnishings. Too many small items make a room feel cluttered and that’s just not happy! I also combine high end, custom pieces with inexpensive pieces. A mix of custom, readymade, refurbished, or repurposed items make a room very special.

I am proud to say that my clients all become my friends through the design process. We get to know and understand each other well. I have a special knack for making my clients feel at ease and comfortable with the design process because I take a collaborative approach and I listen to them. I am able to interpret their style and mix that with my point of view to create an amazing and functional home.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have to give a shout out to Dawn Driskill of Global Design Dealers who got me started in the design business. She coached me through everything! She helped me place orders, and taught me about drapery workrooms and custom furnishings and I am so grateful! She gave me the courage to step out.

I am also very thankful for my husband, Rob, who has been telling me for years that I should pursue interior design and that I have talent. He believed in me before I believed in myself. He has helped me pick up and transport everything from drapery hardware to rugs and accessories. Rob edits my blog posts, gives advice, and helps me with computer issues. He runs errands with me late at night as I shop for last minute accessories and he’s a great cheerleader!
