Inessa and John started their antique business 27 years ago and expanded into Dallas in 1998. They insist on personally hand-selecting every item that goes to their two 25,000 square foot showrooms in Dallas on the corner of Oak Lawn and Dragon Street, as well as on Bluebonnet Blvd. in Baton Rouge, LA. They also employ professional restoration and customization specialists in each city to bring each and every piece to its full potential. Specializing in all things Continental, their offerings include the smallest jewelry box to an enormous six door walnut armoire, and everything in between, all obtained in Europe with special emphasis placed on French, Swedish and Italian antiques for a truly wonderful Old World effect. They pride themselves on furnishing and providing artwork and decorative accessories for clients all over the world, Currently they have over a hundred mirrors in stock, and over 300 paintings and artworks available at all times. They specialize in buffets, bookcases and commodes in all styles, sizes and price ranges, and the finest selection of 18th to 19th century European antiques.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The antique business is all about the hunt ~ the search for the finest quality and condition. Our business is only as good as our next container. We have to persevere no matter what the .world may throw at us. As we have traveled through Europe we’ve endured floods, snowstorms, terrorist attacks, and on the home front hurricanes, more floods and other challenges. Our enthusiasm for finding the best antiques and artwork has kept us continually excited and enthralled about being in such a dynamic business.
Inessa Stewart’s Antiques – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Many have asked over the years what makes us so different, and the answer is simple. Inessa. Inessa was born in Europe and came to the USA in her youth, and decided to go into the business to bring the familiar surroundings of classical European art, design and history to her new home. Through experience, research, a natural artistic talent, and sheer determination she continually amazes with her unique selections which combine to make a collection that is literally without peer.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Each and every time we deliver a magical piece to a new home it makes us proud to be able to bring such joy and excitement to our clients’ families.
