Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Hicks.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Isaiah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Dallas has been home for me for about nine years now. One thing that I love is community and I’ve been able to find some great community here in Dallas. I got into photography when I got my first iPhone, believe it or not. Which was an iPhone 5. This is where my love for photography started. Just taking my phone out and shooting mobile photography. Shortly after that, I bought my first DSLR, and have been shooting ever since. This is for sure one thing that I love about photography is that it brings people together. I have been shooting for about 5 or 6 years now and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would definitely say that the creative world has it’s up’s and down moments but I’m learning to embrace those moments. Some challenges that I’ve faced along the way is overthinking the process. I think as a creative it’s really easy to look at other creatives and judge your process as a creative. I believe it’s important to fully focus on what you are creating and trust your process. This has been a struggle for me but it has taught me to fully trust my process as a photographer.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Isaiah Hicks photography – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of and what sets you apart from others.
As a photographer, one thing that I love to do is documenting moments. That can be from portraits, street, lifestyle, landscape, I love it all. Because I love it all, I find it hard sometimes to just shoot one thing. I like to call myself a life photographer. I love to shoot what I see. I think what sets me apart is knowing that to be successful in this business is that you can’t do this alone. It requires putting yourself out there and really finding a good community to surround yourself with. And to just enjoy the process. This makes me want to create more.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
One thing that I’m excited to do more of is to go out and shoot more. It’s been good to push myself to shoot different things. And to step outside my comfort zone. This has allowed me to get a new perspective on what I am creating. Currently working on some new projects that I’m excited to share soon! Overall, just excited for the future!
