Today we’d like to introduce you to Ishmael Davison Ish D.
Ishmael Davison, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Grew up in a small town in west Texas, called San Angelo. My mother and father were both big into hip hop, so naturally I wanted to DJ. But in the early 2000’s it was still expensive to get into, and there weren’t any music stores around. So I jumped on my Families computer and messed around until I came across a program called fruity loops. That was around age 12/13. I played around with it until I was about 15, that’s when I began to take it seriously. At 17 is when I had stumbled upon a placement with Lil Wayne.
I was able to produce for the rappers back home until I was able to create a name for myself. After high school I went to Collin County Community College and attended there music program there. That’s when I began getting my feet wet in the local scene here, having already met a few people online before I got here it was somewhat a seamless transition into the scene where I began building my name up again working with people like Bobby sessions, JT, Blue The Misfit, and developed an act named Sam Lao.
After everyone going their separate ways it was time to start doing things the way I wanted and how I heard them
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Oh you know the usual… Egos, missed opportunities, everyone thinking that they know the best route to individual success. But it’s just always been about being consistent.
Please tell us about Ish D.
Well, Music Producer would be my overall theme. The producer roll to me is being in charge of all things musical. Whether that be setting up equipment, to even setting the vibes right. I look at being a producer similar to being a therapist. Music is a release for a lot, so it always been about converting. Those emotions into tunes.
I’m most proud of the way my approach has been towards this music game. It’s always about the pivot with me and being able to adjust. Whether it’d be a new sound, new technology, new media. It’s a hard thing to do. I’d also would attribute that to being what sets me apart from others, I’ve always tried to stay up on what’s new.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Wasted less time on certain people who show there colors from the jump.
