Today we’d like to introduce you to Isis Woods.
Isis, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, my path toward cultivating a community of travelers began when I started following God. In college, I was a biology major and had one goal in mind: becoming a pediatric surgeon. At the time, I had a hunger for money that wasn’t healthy. I enjoyed the medical field, but it wasn’t my calling, and I knew that deep down. I grew up in poverty, and I was so focused on having a career that would be lucrative. I didn’t want to worry finances and I was so sure that as a surgeon, I would have the funds for all I wanted and needed in life. However, toward the end of my junior year, I began leaning on God and he helped me realize that money doesn’t solve problems! After months of prayer, it was clear that teaching was actually my purpose — I actually had a random man walk up to me in the park and say “God told me that you’re going to be one of the greatest kindergarten teachers the world has ever seen,” but that’s a story for another time! Imagine everyone’s when I dropped all of my classes and switched my degree to elementary education!
Fast forward three years late, I’m now a kindergarten teacher in Dallas, Texas! It’s no secret that teachers get paid much than deserved! Consequently, I started my career, I also began investing and budgeting money. Although my salary was less than I hadn’t planned years prior, I still wanted to live the life I deserved — great food and traveling the world! So, I started researching flight deals, Airbnb’s, cheap travel tips, etc. Before I knew it, I was traveling often — 7 countries this past summer! I wanted to be able to share this love for (thrifty) travel with others as well as planning people’s dream vacations… and thus began Thrifty Travel Tribune! I now share travel tips, hacks, deals, and affordable lodging daily! I just recently planned a Caribbean Islands tour for a group of best friends and I’m excited to do the same for others!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
You know, as much as I’d love to seem edgy and say it hadn’t been that smooth… it has! I’ve definitely had hard times and many lates nights! However, I think because I have such an inner peace and love for what I do… I don’t see those as rough times! I see them more-so as learning moments and strength builders!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Thrifty Travel Tribune – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I’m very proud of the fact that I’m helping people’s dreams come true! As a little girl with financial struggles, I never would have imagined that I’d be 24 years old traveling where I want, when I want, and giving others the opportunity to do the same! There’s a lot of other companies that send you flight deals! My company is different because it specializes in planning affordable travel for individuals and groups, as well as providing daily updates for flight deals, Airbnb deals, travel tips, and more! We’re going beyond booking the flight! We offer awesome travel advice so that you can actually enjoy yourself once you’re there! I would say that we’re known for our authenticity! As a woman of faith, I don’t rip people off and I look out for everyone who interacts with my company! I’ve seen some travel agencies charge ridiculous fees and that’s just distasteful! I’m also extremely proud of the fact that we were able to successfully planning affordable vacations and business trips for eight individuals within the first day of opening!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Well… I can’t reveal all that I have in the works! But just know that Thrifty Travel Tribune be accessible via app soon! Haha!
