Today we’d like to introduce you to J.J. Wooten.
Thanks for sharing your story with us J.J. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’m a lifetime lover of Turquoise jewelry and four years ago, I decided to set up shop on Instagram. With a flair for vintage pieces and oversized jewels, I was able to grow a following of clients that had a love for the same. We specialize in authentic high-end Native American-made pieces with exceptional turquoise stones and our clientele grows everyday. We have even recently provided a collection of pieces to Drew Barrymore and she wears them on her new CBS daytime television show.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
This ride has been an exceptional learning experience! I went from a 20-year career as a hairdresser to owning an online boutique while not knowing how to use a computer! Lol. The design of my website and the entire process has centered around me being able to do it all from my phone.
Hippie Cowgirl Couture – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are known for being the “go to” place for “over the top” western jewelry. Glamazon ladies of the rodeo and western world seek us out for everything from everyday pieces up to special occasion “jaw-dropping” jewels for special events. The thing that sets us apart is our philosophy that “size matters” and being a company rooted in Texas Style and Texas taste it makes us truly one of a kind.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Our idea of success is a moving target. Once it was to be in a magazine, any magazine lol. Then it became a sales goal so that my side hustle could become my main focus. Now my interests have shifted, I really just want to see how far we can go. If we can build the brand into a familiar name if we can get actual Native American art on a large segment of the population and have the style appreciated. The goal of all goals to see turquoise elevated & appreciated in the circles of high fashion. My personal definition is freedom, that the people I have on staff can handle the day to day business ‘ I can be free to create and appreciate and educate.
