Meet J Saenz of Houston Tx

Today we’d like to introduce you to J Saenz.

Hi J, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started back in 2017 as kind of as a hobby during my college baseball days. At the time, I was only doing it for fun, until I had several people encourage me to write music and release it. In 2018 I traveled to Austin tx and recorded a 7 song project. I released the project in 2019 and for the time, it did really well. Since then I have grown a passion for writing music as a way to express myself and have others resonate with my music. As time progressed, I have fine tuned my sound and made it my own. Now in the present day, I am making a career out of it by getting booked for shows, getting paid for my music, writing and recording for movies, etc. Most of all, I am having a lot of fun doing something I love, and getting compensated for it!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. Especially as I progress in my career, I am more self critical of every piece of music I put out. It’s always a competition against myself to do better each time, and when it doesn’t happen, I start to feel like I put myself behind. There is also no team behind me, it’s just me writing and recording my own music, shooting my own videos, running my own promo, and trying to make it happen by myself. So I would say the biggest struggle right now is connecting with a large audience I know is out there for me, but I am trusting the process and making it happen day by day.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I would say I am a jack of all trades (master of none) but I do my best to do my best in each! My “main” job is being a registered nurse. I work in the pediatric home health space. I also run a videography/photography/drone business that I am very passionate about. I love creating visuals for individuals and businesses of all occasions. My family and I also opened a food truck last year that I tend to very often. Sometimes it can get to be a lot, but the way my brain works, it works for me. I am most proud of being able to juggle all of these things and still consistently become a better artist in the way of music, visuals, and promoting myself.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I think I have good luck in the form of “karma” as some people would call it. I always try to do right by others and I know the universe returns that to me in some form. A lot of my accomplishments have definitely not been luck though, it has been a reflection of all the hard work and time I have sacrificed to put myself in positions to obtain opportunities. The luck part , besides good karma, also comes from my hardworking parents sacrificing a lot to put my in a good position to chase this dream. So my luck stems from being lucky to have the parents I was blessed with.
