Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacey Bullock.
Hi Jacey, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in the East Dallas area. I received my undergraduate degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The University of Oklahoma (Boomer Sooner!) and a Master of Science in Speech-Language Pathology from The University of Tulsa. Following graduation, my husband’s job brought us back to the DFW metroplex where I started my career as a speech-language pathologist at an amazing local public school district. When I took that first job, I never imagined that I would do anything else. I loved my job, the people I worked with, and the community, but after spending 5 years as a school-based SLP, and having 3 kids of my own, I was looking for something different. I wanted to create a schedule that allowed me to prioritize my family more, choose what communication disorders I could pour into, focus on giving the best one-on-one therapy possible, and really form great relationships with each family I work with. I initially began thinking I would “just see clients on the side,” but that quickly turned into me becoming truly passionate about growing my knowledge and expertise in areas that would allow me to help more clients. I feel very blessed to be where I am today with practices in Aledo/Fort Worth and Sunnyvale/Dallas serving families all over the DFW metroplex.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Leaving a job I truly loved to go out on my own and open my own practice was the most difficult decision I have ever had to make. It was very nerve-racking, but it has been extremely rewarding and helped me grow in ways I didn’t know were possible. Although it has been a pretty smooth transition, running a business has been a huge learning curve for me. I stay busy during the day serving patients and their families, and there never seems to be enough hours in the day to tackle the ins and outs of running a business.
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about KLC Pediatric Therapy?
At KLC Pediatric Therapy, we pride ourselves on providing high-quality, patient-centered, individualized speech therapy. We serve the pediatric population with deficits in speech sounds, phonological disorders, childhood apraxia of speech, receptive and expressive language, pragmatic language, late talkers, fluency, pediatric feeding disorders, and orofacial myofunctional disorders. Not only do we provide excellent therapy, we provide services unique to our practice that builds communication with families and include them in every aspect of their child’s therapy journey. I am extremely proud to be able to bring on and work with the best therapists in DFW. I want people to know that we are passionate, caring, and kind. Our therapists truly care about the overall well-being of our patients and will do what it takes to help them make progress and succeed.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see more awareness and advocacy for children to be met based on their needs and not their disability or diagnosis. I want all of my patients to have an equal opportunity to learn, succeed, and grow in a welcoming and accepting environment and I am passionate about helping my patients to succeed in all areas of their life.
