Today we’d like to introduce you to Jackie Venson.
Jackie, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up with music in my family, my father is a professional musician as well as my brother Andre, who has made his living music directing at churches as well as playing with famous bands whenever they come through Houston. I started on the piano at age 8 and spend the following 13 years playing classical piano exclusively, When I was 18 I went to college at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. During my 3rd and final year there I decided to switch from classical piano to electric blues and rock guitar. My life hasn’t been the same since.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I play the guitar and I write and sing original songs. My message is that of positivity, hope, self-acceptance/love and faith. Not religiously however generally in life and in yourself. I think there is a serious lack of self-love in this world and from that stems a lot of problems. I also sing about my experiences in hopes that folks have something to relate to. Often times it feels like we’re alone but everyone struggles and often times in similar ways, I find music a cathartic release in these times and I hope to provide that for other people.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Self-acceptance, individuality (and the driving force of sticking to your guns), patience, and love for what you do. There are many times in my career where if I didn’t have those things I would have failed. My definition of success is the ability to do what you love, accept where you are, and have the resources to continue to create.

My website, jackievenson.com, is a great hub for all of my work and social media links. However, I do have a Facebook group called “JV Squad”. There I share all of my exclusive content including behind the scenes on my tours, shows, and studio sessions as well as live broadcasts from all over the world. It is also a great way to stay posted on when I am touring to your town.
