Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacobo M. Espino.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I considered myself a dreamer, a lover, friendly, objective, creative. I’ve always been independent and a self-lover. But, let me begin by explaining how this amazing story began. My name is Jacob Martinez Espino, I grew up in a small town in central Mexico a place that is rich in culture and traditions. Those same traditions have inspired me to get involved in art.
Art can be express in so many ways. I started by doing some paintings however, I felt like I was not good enough and that’s when I discovered photography. When I was about 11 years old I became very obsessed with cameras and how a simple photo can capture moments, memories, and feelings. I was simply amazed!
I remember my first camera, it was an instant film camera. I could only use it once because the film was very expensive and I couldn’t afford to buy more. When I turned 16 years old I decided to move to Texas. It was a big change and I became very insecure, I had no confidence but I had to look for an inspiration to move forward. Photography was and continue to be my inspiration. However, I did not own a professional camera so I would always take the pictures with my cellphone. After several years, in a Christmas Day someone very special surprised me with a gift, a professional camera! That is the day this joyful journey began.
I started taking photos of everything, friends and family started asking me to take their photos. Everything changed about 1 year and 5 months ago when I decided to assist a photographer friend that I’ve always admire shoot a couple. I got very excited and inspired seeing the love of the couple and the passion of the photographer capturing the emotion and love of that couple. That’s when I convinced myself that this what I want to do. Definitely capturing love is what got me hooked. Now that I own my photography business I can honestly say that I’m living my dream and I’m very passionate about it.
Please tell us about your art.
I’m a couple/wedding and portrait photographer. I like to capture people’s happiness and love. I love working with couples who are not afraid to create something different and unique, couples who are willing to create a magical memory that will be forever in their lives.
I love to connect with my clients, if it’s not with cup of coffee a shot of tequila can help! To me, a successful photoshoot is when my clients enjoy the moment and make them feel like I’m invisible so that they can be whoever they want to be/themselves and capture those exact and beautiful moments.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
To me, success if putting a smile on my clients, creating memories. There is something about seeing people happy, the feeling I feel when I’m around them, the joy I see in their faces.
I believe that in order to be successful you need to love and be yourself. You need to have passion on everything that you do and inspire and teach other people to do the same. Have a dream, be consistent and work hard to make it come true. Everything is possible.
