Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Benjume Sanchez.
Hi Jacqueline , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hello!
I am a 27 year old Mexican American born in Michoacán Mexico. My parents brought me to the US when I was 6 years old. I faced many obstacles growing up in Pleasant grove from not knowing any English to our family not having a vehicle, we took the dart bus everywhere we needed to go, relied on food stamps for our day to day meals. I was raised by a single immigrant mother who also didn’t speak any English. I remember being so close to my siblings we all went to elementary school together while our mom worked pregnant in what she could find we took care of each other, ate what we could make being all under the age of 10, we rode the bus together and didn’t get on until we all made it to the stop. My older sister was 10 by then I was 7 my brother was 4. The little we had we cherished. I always had a hustler mentality seeing where we came from I knew I had to do big things in life. I was 8 years old when I decided to mix a bunch of lotions together put in small containers and go around my apartment complex selling them for $1 I ended up selling $10 and with those $10 I walked to the corner store and found $1 items to give as Christmas gifts to my mom and my siblings we never had a tree full of gifts we were lucky to get one each. I’ve had many accomplishments and downfalls in my past years but my biggest achievement is definitely my business now opening a second location I am the proud owner of 2 Pilates studios. I have built a community of people who felt out of place at other studios who didn’t feel seen or heard at other places an amazing community who welcomed everybody of every background every skill level at an extremely affordable price. Paying only $60 a month for a full Pilates experience. A place where diversity meets at the mat. Hence the name “Ebody Pilates Studio”
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not speaking English, having a single mother, having no vehicle, being on food stamps.
