Meet Jacquie Hood Martin, PhD of J. Hood & Associates in Cedar Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacquie Hood Martin, PhD.

Jacquie Hood, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
J. Hood & Associates began in 1990. We are a training and development firm that begin with 7-years of spare change. Yes, for every dollar I would spend, the change was placed in a jar until one day I had enough to host my first workshop complete with continental breakfast at the Holiday Inn. Those workshop series grew to other platforms including a nightly radio show and led to me becoming a published author, and a placed me on speaking tour.

As a professional development non-profit, a 501(c) 3 charitable organization, our work and the people who engage in our work help to support underserved communities by providing leadership training, business workshops, and Coaching Certifications.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Struggles are inevitable in entrepreneurship. The key is learning to read changes and shifts on the economic landscape to provide for yourself and company in the lean seasons.

As a service provider others don’t often see the need or value for training and development. Learning how to see out other revenue streams to keep programs running is important. A much needed skill set by all businesses is grant writing and community collaboration. People supporting people can help a struggling entrepreneur or business.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the J. Hood & Associates story. Tell us more about the business.
My specialty is helping people learn to balance. J. Hood & Associates is a life management firm with the goal and intent of helping individuals, communities, and businesses navigate the swift and sudden changes in life. Our professional development and training lends itself to disaster recovery efforts to retrain communities to thrive, providing camps for children in the creative arts, journalism and film, construction, entrepreneurship, and the culinary arts.

I am most proud of our longevity. Running a business since 1990 speaks volumes of our leadership and commitment to serving people. Staying power during the many seasons our company has seen means being able to keep your pulse on the people and offer what is needed to keep communities on the cutting edge of its generation. We offer hope and guidance using business principles and practices that have been vetted and tested. As a Certified Six Sigma Greenbelt when my company steps in, the ability to identify, understand, and redirect corporate culture will be different than your run-of-the-mill consultant or coach.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck.

Every person on the earth has a planned path for their lives. It is the responsibility of each individual to discover their gift or talent, nourish it with education or training, and nurture it in healthy environments that give them life and meaning. In life you get what you prepare to attain.
