Meet Jaime Uribe and Tim Gonzalez of Ely Artisan’s Jewelry in Bishop Arts District

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaime Uribe and Tim Gonzalez.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Jaime and Tim. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Through our many excursions around Mexico, we have had the pleasure of meeting many talented artisans that possess very unique styles. Those styles show a personal passion these artists have for their culture. By using natural ores, stones and textiles indigenous to the beautiful lands of their country these artisans are able to express this passion in the form of jewelry, sculptures, and clothing.

Full of inspiration, we began a mission to promote these artisans by exploring our own neighborhood Bishop Arts, Texas. We were surprised to find just how prominent the Mexican culture was in this South Dallas area called Oak Cliff. We quickly discovered the thriving neighborhood of Bishop Arts was a perfect fit for our quest of sharing these artisans’ amazing talents. By opening Ely Artisans Jewelry, we are able to exhibit their artwork and now with Elyartisans.com, we are thrilled to be able to share with the world!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with any new business, we have been presented with many unexpected challenges. We are somewhat of a hidden spot tucked away at the back of the 410 Market in the Bishop Arts District. This presented us with the obstacle of how we can make ourselves more discoverable to potential customers. Thankfully, we were able to team up with other local shop owners located in and around the 410 Market and create events to promote awareness such as fashion shows & holiday-themed events. This has been a wonderful way for us to not only make ourselves more discoverable but also has been a great way to connect with the local community and business owners.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Ely Artisan’s Jewelry – what should we know?
Here at Ely Artisan’s Jewelry, we specialize in handcrafted jewelry made by amazingly talented artisans we discovered during our excursions throughout Mexico. Our goal was to find and promote artists that have there own unique style and techniques that reflected the rich culture that resides in Mexico. Our ability to share these artists unique skills with the world is something that we take great pride in as a company. Helping to support these artists so that they can continue to express their passion for jewelry making as an art form is something that sets us apart from others.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
As a child growing up in Guanajuato, Mexico, I was always very creative and was consistently looking for ways to express myself. I would use anything I could find including play-doe to sculpt and lego blocks to build my own little cities. I remember I would save up my allowances so that I could buy paint colors and canvases. Creating art had a very calming effect on me and helped me to focus. Having this passion and drive to express myself allowed me to relate to many other artists from my country and contributed to my desires to share this with others.
