Meet Jalen Nelson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalen Nelson.

Hi, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Thank you guys for having me today, I appreciate you guys so much. Wow there’s so much to even say when it comes to my story.

I was someone who was struggling financially and personally for about 10 years. I knew I always wanted to pursue fashion, I just didn’t know how to live off of it and sustain myself, however that didn’t stop me from remaining consistent with my dream. I knew fashion was going to take off for me I just didn’t know when. While going from job to job, I remained consistent while pursuing fashion on the side. Fast forward to 2020 the pandemic hit and that was the opportunity that would either break me or bring me to that next level. I definitely chose the second option and just started figuring out things I was good at and started to make income from it. Next thing you know I was making more than my job so I took a leap of faith, changed my mindset, and quit. I definitely was nervous but I knew God would make it work, then Instagram came out with reels and my life definitely changed. I created Instagram reels for a solid year and was able to buy a home, create a 6-figure business, be on national television, and more. Life has definitely changed for me in the best way possible, God is so good!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I think the biggest challenge I’ve encountered is getting in my own way. I guess you can say I’m somewhat of a perfectionist and I’ll create this image in my head that anything I put out isn’t going to be successful, but I have to change that narrative because anything I do put is successful.

I have to learn to speak that every single time I release a project or it won’t be exactly what I want it to be. I’ve also understood that if something doesn’t come out successful, that’s okay. Trial and error are always a good way to grow and learn. The biggest lesson I’ve encountered was that even if you’re going through something, you still have to push through and get what you want done, life waits on nobody so we need to continue to grow regardless of what we go through.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
– No problem, well I’m definitely a Fashion content creator and a marketing mentor for those who missed that. I love creating amazing fashion content and just having fun. I feel like creating content should be a space to have fun and entertain your audience of course. I do this because it doesn’t feel like a job and I love that. I do the same with Marketing as well, I make sure people know I’m serious but I also have a great time so it doesn’t feel like it’s a job. Overall, I love what I do and I think it’s a beautiful thing!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Hmm, what makes me happy? This a good question…life, being alive, being able to witness the world when I get up every day. The little things make me happy and I’m very content with where I am in life right now which a lot of people probably wouldn’t say. Does it mean I don’t have more to do or grow? Absolutely not, there’s still so much more to go. I just feel like people don’t take the time to enjoy the “now” and always look towards the future. The future is great but don’t get so caught up into the future that you forget how much you’ve accomplished at this very moment. I’m proud to see how much I’ve accomplished in 2 years as an entrepreneur and I still have a long way to go. But right now, I can definitely say that’s what happiness looks like for me.
