Meet Jalisa Mariah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalisa Mariah.

Hi Jalisa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am a 22 year small business owner that specializes in elevating the black community through digital content.” Along with the rest of answer I initially provided.

In 2019, I wanted to stop living paycheck to paycheck so I got a waitress job. I was working in restaurants for about a year until I got my first job aligned with my path at Cumulus Media radio station. I worked there for three months until COVID hit in 2020. Obviously my life changed because COVID kept me in the house. I decided to start my podcast, HonesTea, with my bestfriend. It wasn’t until then I saw my influence and motivation within my listeners or people that followed me online. I began reading about spiritual awareness everyday, really trying to find my purpose. I read the Bible, books about frequency and energies, and manifestation. Then it came to me, boom. I had to make my first vision board. I wanted to understand manifestation. Personally, I wanted to be a walking testimony. I put all my goals and dreams on that board and vowed to do the work to achieve them. Found an online internship called Unmutedco. It’s a black-owned radio/journalist internship based in New York & Atlanta that teaches you the ins and out of studio production and programming.

In July, I received my first manger position at the RealHairBeautyBar, a black-owned hair salon in south Dallas. In October, I started my IGTV series “Jalisa Mariah In The Mornings,” where I discussed the elevation of the melanin mind with topics that dive deep into mental health and spirituality to navigate people through this physical realm. My experience in restaurants paid off as I was offered another manger position in October at Turkey D.A.M. sports bar & grill, which is also black-owned. By then, I crossed off every single goal I had for the rest of that year and saw how successful I could be if I put in the work and trusted myself. I worked for two black-owned businesses and excelled. I was so proud of myself, in January, I decided to quit both job to walk into my entrepreneurial life. I was taught how to utilize Airbnb for income and did that for six months.

I saved up enough money to co-own my own event space! 11:11 Studios is a black-owned venue that pushes you to manifest your reality there. Have your parties, your business meetings, your game nights, your family functions, music videos, photoshoot, whatever your heart desires at 11:11 and I promise you won’t regret it. It didn’t take me long for the idea of Airbnb classes & vision board parties to pop into my head. I’m not the only black businesswoman/man in Dallas, and I’m definitely not the youngest one. All black creatives and entrepreneurs deserve the same opportunities to succeed in life. So, now I offer services to teach anyone that wants to know how to live their happy life, find what aligns with them, walk in their purpose, and make some money. it feels like I’m just getting started.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Growing up in Maryland & Virginia, I always faced differences in energies & personalities with others. I was teased when I was younger for being “too nice” or “too friendly”. I then moved to Dallas in high school still facing the same challenges. It wasn’t until I was about 16 that I began to embrace my spirit & personality through social medias like Twitter & Periscope.” Along with the rest of the answer initially provided.

Once I was comfortable with my energy, it was no longer “challenging” for me to be myself around whoever and teach the things I teach. I know my intentions with everything I do, especially educating my community, is pure. So it no longer bothers me like it used to.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in show production and hosting I’d say I’m most known for that. Recently I’ve been labeled as the “Manifest Princess” for my success in Airbnb and my vision board party. My energy and intention is what draw others to me. I genuinely want to see people win. I spent most of my life trying to prove myself to others because I hated being different. People treat you different when you’re different. I knew I had to power to change that within myself and prevent others from going through what I went through by teaching through love and leading by example instead of following the crowd.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Protect your energy!!! Just because you shouldn’t focus on the ones that wanna see you fail doesn’t mean they don’t exist. I learned to be aware of other energies and intentions, even if mine are pure.
