Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamaal Muhammad.
Hi Jamaal, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started my dating podcast (The Mind vs Heart) about a year ago. I wanted to create a platform where young people could come on a show and express their thoughts, questions and/or concerns on dating whether they are single or in a relationship. The podcast is a dating show where we have meaningful and intellectual conversations about the pros and cons of dating in the modern era. I come up with the questions on the spot to ask the guests and later on in the show I turn it over to the guests to see if they want to ask me any questions or need my advice on anything. Its a show where there a real topics and real conversations about dating nowadays nothing is scripted and the only thing that is planned is which guests is coming on which day and the time of the show other than that it is all natural. When I started my podcast I did not expect it to be as large as it is around the Denton/Dallas area but I am grateful that the show has had the success that it has had so far.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle is just trying to get everyone that wants to come on my show on the actual show. When I go out people are always asking me to come on my show or even text me on instagram about coming on. I am thankful that so many people want to be on the show but sometimes it can be hard to remember everyone that wants to come on the show and stay organize with it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am known for having a dating podcast that I started at The University of North Texas in Denton. Since I have started my show people come up to me all the time asking for advice about dating. My major is psychology neuroscience with a minor in journalism digital broadcasting. Once I graduate this spring I plan to get my masters and phd degree in psychology as well. My ultimate career goal is to be a Marriage Counselor.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory has to be when I was about 12 and my family hosted a block party at my grandma house. It was filled with children playing basketball, a water slide, and just everyone overall having a good time while dancing/eating. Those are the type of environments that I like to be in where everyone is just having a good time and enjoying themselves.
