Meet Jamell Grandberry of As Fathers We Unite in Fort Worth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamell Grandberry.

Jamell, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started working for the city of Fort Worth in their summer recreation program with children. Then I moved on to become a certified trainer in CPR and PAPH (physical aggression/physical holds). I did this for local foster care agencies. I later moved on to become a youth sports coach, coaching children aged 5-17. I’ve had a plethora of jobs in different areas of care, such as emergency shelters to adult behavioral care workers in other agencies in Fort Worth. I’ve always helped and worked in our community in some fashion. Then God placed it on my heart to start a non-profit organization so that I can continue doing philanthropy work.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Yes, it has been a pretty smooth ride so far. And I’m thankful to God for this.

We’d love to hear more about your organization.
We specialize in giving and doing philanthropy work. We are most proud that we can go out and service the community and people that are in need. What sets us apart from others is that we specialize in helping children succeed as well as assisting adults with mental health issues.

What were you like growing up?
I was a very attentive child. I thrived in education and in sports. I also enjoyed helping people at a young age, mediating critical situations in school and on the basketball court. Basketball was a huge passion for me in high school and beyond.
