Meet James Carroll of Meat and Greet BBQ Catering LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Carroll.

Hi James, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always had a passion for fire and smoke and the resulting mouth watering meats that it produces. I cooked for 30 years for friends and family before being encouraged to move forward with a BBQ business.

While attending Community College pursuing a Business Administration degree I created Meat and Greet BBQ Catering. I used the subject matter in the degree plan to create a business model that is unique, I work out of a commercial kitchen, not a walk-in box store, This lack of overhead creates less risk for the owner, and the public gets the great BBQ menu, value priced, at the venue of their choice.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I organically funded my start up avoiding debt all all costs. I reinvested into the business until I had what I needed. I now have fixed monthly expenses for support and staff.
Finding local talent to build and maintain my internet and media that I trusted was a challenge. I networked with others to locate the best I could afford.

We’ve been impressed with Meat and Greet BBQ Catering LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our model is that we stick with what we do best, smoked meats. Brisket is the star of the show along with chicken, and pork in some form.
We assembled a team that supports me in creating and maintaining my web site, Google listing, SEO/keyword page placements and other media issues, Other professionals keep books, prepare tax documents, and provide monthly business statements. This allows me to do what I do best.
I am most proud of the custom BBQ uniqueness that I built into our cooking method. Chain restaurants use rotisserie ovens infused with smoke in a cooking chamber. I had built for me box smokers with vertical racks that mimic a convection oven heated with real hardwood. With the help of a little technology our results are consistently outstanding.
Our all inclusive pricing sets us apart from others in that at one price point everything is included. Meats, sides, plates, flatware, paper products, condiments, sauces, everything. No corporate mandate here.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I am listed on a few platforms that have nationwide coverage that offer break out study groups from time to time on different business topics
