Meet James Freeman III

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Freeman III.

Thanks for sharing your story with us James. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My photography journey started back when I was a child, I always watching my father taking photos on such a big camera to me so once I was allowed to pick it up I never wanted to put it down, I was determined to get my own and learn how to use it. Once I was gifted my father’s old camera, I was hooked. During that time period, Instagram wasn’t around so Flickr played such a big role in showing me the level of where I would work to get my photography to, so I shot every day and spent hours in gimp (Knockoffphotoshop) and photoshop until I got the hang of it. Once I got my skills up to where I thought was ok, I begin taking senior portrait jobs and beginning to learn how to make money from photography but I never thought this is where I would be years down the road.

Once I graduated from high school, I was honestly stuck on where to attend college until I visited a small school in Austin, Tx. All it took was one walk around Austin with my camera and I knew this was the city I wanted to grow as a person and more importantly as an artist as well. While attending college, I meet people who developed me and my craft to a whole different level. This new group of friends led me to try things like photography meetups which I instantly fell in love with and actually began to throw my own. Through the years, I have continued to grow as an artist and have gotten opportunities to take part in projects I never would have dreamed of.

Has it been a smooth road?
I would say my photography journey had been so unique based on the difficult times I have endured. I can say confidently, I have owned one camera and lens that was bought brand new, most of my equipment was either passed down or found fixed and polished as if it was brand-new but I honestly think it has helped me developed a different understanding of my craft.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the semajimagery story. Tell us more about it.
semajimagery is a company whose #1 goal is providing high-end content to its customers. We specialize in any type of portraits but can do other forms of photography from landscape and architecture to branding and content creation for other businesses.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Photography is always changing but most of it will stay the same. I feel people are starting to take visuals and creatives more serious which is amazing so I actually cannot wait to see who’s at the top of the industry in the next 5-10 years.
