Today we’d like to introduce you to James Guerrero.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always had sales/retail jobs, so working with people and customer service has always been a big thing for me. I actually found the car business through my wife. She suggested I give it a try and that I might be good at it considering my work history. Coming raised from a house of women, I was hesitant because I didn’t know the first thing about cars. She assured me I would get trained, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to try and worse case, I’ll go back to whatever else I was doing at the time. Definitely did not get trained… more of a sink or swim type of thing. Been making a living from it ever since.
Has it been a smooth road?
Yes and no. Yes, it has been a smooth road because connecting and talking with people has always sort of come natural and I really enjoy engaging with people so in that aspect it was smooth sailings and great. The most challenging part possibly for me, since I came into the business fairly young and still coming into my own and problem-solving skills, I had to learn fast how to approach and handle difficult situations and not so much sweep things under the rug. Rather find the solutions and get things done.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m an Internet Sales Manager for Freedom Dodge Chrysler Jeep Ram in Duncanville. Technically, what I do is whenever someone expresses interest in a vehicle online, I’m typically the main point of contact and assist the best I can. What I’m known for is being the “Social Media Guy” early on in the business, it just made sense to me for some reason and it’s really stuck and is now being the “it” thing I think car dealerships are finally taking notice to. A major percentage of my clients and customers are from social media. Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat, etc… it’s a huge help and I think more connectable from customers to the professional. What I’m most proud of and sets us apart from other places is how tight-knit and transparent we are. I know some places or just the car salesman stigma has a bad rep but we really are providing the best customer service we can with a great group of employees. We really are like a family and working for as many places as I have, that’s kind of a rare gem to find so that makes me most proud.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I definitely feel our city is great for this business. For people who “want” new cars that are great. Everyone always needs transportation. For our specific demographic and surroundings, for people who “need” a vehicle that’s a different type of help and accomplishment within itself. I think for someone starting out it can be a great place. The opportunity is there and as long as the effort is matched you can definitely see great outcomes.
