Today we’d like to introduce you to James McGee.
Hi James, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started OG Vegan so I can show a side of Former and current Gang members that the masses don’t see. We are looked at in a bad way and that’s because most people only hear about gangs on TV but in reality, it’s more OGs taking care of their community i.e. community gardens, creating jobs, feeding the homeless etc. And I personally feel like if we as a whole community eat a Lil healthier, the change will slowly come. “HEALING THE COMMUNITY IS GANGSTA.”
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course not. I’ve had funding issues, I’ve had tax problems, employees not coming in, obviously, covid came around and f’d up a lot. But the good outweighs the bad and my goals and morals keep it going.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about O.G Vegan?
We are a vegan food trailer in Oak Cliff, TX we are a for-profit that wants to serve underserved communities. We also do a lot of volunteer work, mainly with misplaced kids. Known for having fun and cooking for the people. I’m most proud of being comfortable enough to be myself and create a concept based around a subject most people shy away from.
How do you think about happiness?
Taking care of our youth and giving them something to look forward to. Because I was there just like many others and not all of us had somebody who genuinely cared about our future, we made it out and it’s our OBLIGATION to show them the right way or at least give them all the options and hold out our hand to lift them up.
