Meet James McInroe of The Design District

Today we’d like to introduce you to James McInroe.

James, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I have been in the design business since the early 1980’s. I’ve been doing high end residential interiors in Dallas since the mid-1990’s. I mix antiques with modern furniture. I don’t normally go into a room and order all new furniture for it. I like the finished room to look like a collection that has been purchased over several years.

I have sold restored vintage 20th century furnishings since 2001, beginning at a location on Riverfront Boulevard.

Our store is currently at 1500 Dragon Street No. 160. We sell a broad variety of 20th century furniture, chandeliers, sconces, and lamps.

Additionally, we often make custom upholstery and other furniture to order.

We have been published in Elle Decor, The Dallas Morning News, D Home, FD Luxe, PaperCity Magazine, and Luxe. In addition to Dallas projects, we’ve done houses all over Texas, in Arkansas, apartments in New York, and a house in Punta Mita, Mexico.

Our projects can be as simple as locating accessories for a client or upholstering a chair, or as complex as renovating and furnishing an entire house.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We have many times come to a final furniture installation and found the construction not completed. In these situations, we are always able to work with the client and contractor to get the job done.

Going to my grandparents’ house in the country.
