Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Jaubert.
So, before we jump into specific questions about what you do, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I began my career as a teacher in a self-contained classroom, teaching students receiving services under the special education umbrella, in the area of emotional disabilities. I realized that my students needed an empathetic ear and a safe environment to problem solve before they needed to learn algebra. This pushed me into a Master’s Degree in School Counseling. I also completed coursework to be a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I was an elementary and middle school counselor for several years. I also worked in a private practice setting throughout my years in education. I retired from Education as a Special Education Counselor.
It became very evident to me that people would access more services if they were all under the same roof. Andrea and I have always had the same vision and knew we worked well together, so we reconnected and began this journey. It is so nice to have such a wonderful clinician, friend, and business partner, who is following the same direction. We finally took the leap to open up Mindful Journey Counseling & Wellness, and the experience has been one of the best decisions of my life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth road, what is that? I don’t think that any part of this journey has been easy or smooth. We are trained counselors, not business owners, so there was a huge learning curve combined with a huge amount of energy because we wanted to pave our own way. We had to learn about property ownership/rental, construction rules and laws, legal requirements for owning a business, and MANY other new skills. Every learning curve was not fun or successful, but we believed in our mission so quitting was never an option. As we continued to persist, everything started to fall in line. Almost every day, we were getting a positive call or made a connection that fit with our vision. It was not all easy, but every bit of it was worth it. We are still in disbelief at the amount of support and momentum we have experienced. Our friends, family, co-workers, other professionals in the field, and partners have helped shape this business along the way.
Please tell us about Mindful Journey Counseling & Wellness – what should we know?
We are very proud of our mission and our ability to stay in line with it. Mental health is a very broad topic and there are many variations within the field. We believe that our clients need to be able to access many modalities, to heal themselves. Having counselors, play therapists, yoga instructors, diagnosticians, psychologists, massage therapists, and several other professionals, in the same office, allows our clients to experience different options. We study the connection between our emotions, stress, anxiety and depression and the effects they have on our physical well being. We know these things are connected and it is important to us that our clients gain a working understand of this. Our office is a family and a safe place for our clients and anyone who works with us. We are proud of this environment and are thankful to get to work with such wonderful professionals.
In therapy sessions, I specialize in individual counseling with adolescents and adults and have notable experience in couples and family counseling. I have extensive training in various modalities of treatment, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction, and the Gottman Method. I am also a certified Wellness & Nutrition Consultant and believe in the importance of the mind-body connection. I also have extensive experience in treating mood and anxiety disorders including depression and bipolar disorders, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Social Anxiety Disorder. Treating stress and other symptoms caused by adjustments to major life changes such as job loss or change, marriage, birth of children, divorce, retirement, launching children and grief is another area of specialization.
Providing counseling services to couples experiencing challenges related to ineffective communication and unhealthy boundaries is another one of my special interests. Additionally, I have counseled many professionals working through various concerns such as hostile work environments, bullies in the workplace and finding a satisfying work-life balance. I hope to provide numerous therapeutic skills designed to assist each client to learn to communicate effectively, set healthy boundaries, grow a positive and supportive social network and develop healthy self-esteem.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I take great pride in the schooling and experiences I have had in the counseling profession. There are so many people I have learned from and am so thankful for their guidance. If you ask me what quality is the MOST important to the success of my career, I would have to say my personal faith and relationships I have in my life. I realize I am not in the position I am in because I did it on my own. There are so many factors that contribute to the success of this business. When I take a step back and really look at this journey, I am completely blown away.
