Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamila Parker.
Hi Jamila, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jamila Parker also known as Milajae. I am a 25-year-old creator from Mesquite Texas. I specialize in acrylic paintings and digital illustrations. My creativity has always been around since I was a child. I really enjoyed drawing and making digital graphics for fun! It wasn’t until my junior year of college when I stopped playing basketball that I decided I wanted to tap into another passion of mine. Since then, I have not stopped creating and have been on a mission to learn and grow as an artist. I truly enjoy being able to share my art journey with others and hope to continue to be an inspiration in the art community.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Painting brings me so much joy but it definitely can be challenging at times. The creative process requires much time and patience. When I first started it was a lot of trial and error. I struggled a lot with my proportions and blending but was determined to keep practicing and learning new painting techniques. I dedicated a lot of time and research so that I could find methods that worked best for my style. With each painting, I learn something new and I am always looking for new ways to enhance my artistry. Though I have faced obstacles on my art journey, I have grown to enjoy and trust the process along the way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As a creator, I specialize in acrylic paintings and digital illustrations. I use different mediums to create vibrant stylized portraits. I am known for capturing the beauty and essence of Black women in my artwork with my unique drawing and painting style. My main focus is to create Black women in a positive light because there is a lack of representation in the media. I love that women of all ages can view my art and feel a connection. On my art journey, I will continue to inspire and create a space for black creatives in the world.
