Meet Janette Holland

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janette Holland.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Janette. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I actually moved to New Orleans right after Katrina happened. I was a General Manager of one of the largest event planning companies in Miami called All-Star Events. Honestly, the city was devastated and no one was really throwing any events, so I had to change my career path. One of my best employees started doing real estate in Florida and left the company before I moved. We were on the phone and she said, “Why don’t you do real estate? I said, “The city is destroyed. I am not sure this is good timing.” She then told me since I was so good at numbers to maybe look into doing mortgages.

I found out at the time that FHA had created loans for rehabbing and remodeling people’s homes. I thought well, this maybe a great time to help people get back into their homes that were destroyed. Honestly, I never looked back. It was the most humbling and emotional experience. Being able to help people get back into their homes during that time was so emotional, we cried at every closing. There is so much more to mortgages but this is where my passion grew. Fast forward to almost 14 years and that same passion is here. I love to help educate and advise on such an emotional process.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Haha, mortgages? Smooth?? NEVER!!! We went through a mortgage meltdown as I been in the business since 2006. I moved twice due to my husband’s NFL career and we finally grounded ourselves in Texas. The biggest struggle honestly is developing and keeping great relationships. I was new to Texas and so I knew no one. In mortgages, sometimes you are only as good as your last transaction. You can work with someone for years and if something goes wrong, everything is your fault and they never use you again. That was tough to deal with at first. Our biggest struggles, too as loan officers are builders. We can work with someone for months sometimes years to help them get qualified and if they walk into a new build, they steal your client away by offering every incentive in the book to use their lender and not you. Its kind of hard to tell your client to give up “free” upgrades” and all of their closing cost paid. This business is also 24/7 and you have to find a happy balance between work and home.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I work for Union Home Mortgage for over 3 1/2 years. I have been in the business for almost 14 years this October. My greatest asset is my drive to want to really help people own a home. Like I literally want everyone to own a home. What sets me apart is my hand holding and educating, my availability, my passion, my love for people as a whole. I specialize in the first time home buyer. They are special because they are nervous, scared, full of emotion and they require a certain type of patience but the reward is so great! I am most proud of winning the Customer Service Award every year. This is the most special award because this comes directly from the clients filling out surveys and it tells me that my clients are happy and that I am truly doing a great job.

There is only one #JLoan!! This is what sets me apart. You must follow me on social media to see who she is. She is Fun. She is educational. She sings to you. She teaches you things. She allows you into her life. She is trustworthy and loyal. For all of your financing needs for your HOME, always remember your girl JLOAN!! Haha. The creation of JLoan is a story of itself. I was watching an interview with Beyonce and she talked about how she had an alter ego of Sasha Fierce. That is who we saw on stage and she went on to why. I was like I need an alter ego, someone who is fierce, someone who is intelligent, someone who captivated a room, someone who was fearless, someone people looked up to. Then came the creation of her. Ha ha JLOAN! I have not looked back and the funny thing is most people don’t even know my real name. They only know her!

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I had so many great memories as a child. My greatest moment was getting a scholarship to Florida State University. It was the only school I ever wanted to go to and told myself I wasn’t applying anywhere else, so if I didn’t get it, I wasn’t going to college lol. GO NOLES! One thing I truly learned as a kid was that anything you want you can have it but only if you put in the work to go get it. No one is going to just give it to you. It’s yours but how hard are you going to work to get it.
