Today we’d like to introduce you to Jarrett and Tana Hicks.
Jarrett and Tana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
The Juc Box started with Jarrett in Houston. Through juicing, Jarrett was able to find ways to incorporate fresh fruits and vegetables conveniently. We found ourselves playing with recipes that included vegetables like kale, spinach, beets, and celery. Before long, we had about eight different recipes that we were taste testing on family and friends.
While we worked on maintaining our long-distance relationship, we would discuss our business ideas. Tana recommended adding CBD to the juice to stand out among the several juice bars already thriving in Dallas. As we learned more about CBD, we decided that it should be a focal point instead of an add-on. Our mission was to promote health and wellness, and that included ways to cope with pain, anxiety, and depression. Today, we have four juices with a seasonal WaterLemon juice for the summer months. We sell merchandise and other CBD products online, and we recently launched a YouTube channel to reach a wider audience. There we discuss not only health and wellness, but also our book club and even our own relationship.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When we first decided to go into business together, we had trouble drawing the line between our relationship and our business. It was the first lesson we had to learn quickly. Once we understood how to do that and worked more closely as a team, we found challenges elsewhere.
We realized that we had to choose the events we attended carefully because not all events actually matched our brand. Once we figured out the events that were for us… the pandemic hit. We felt like we were finally finding our footing, making good connections, but we had to pivot in a new direction with a new approach.
The Juc Box – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We specialize in CBD-infused juice, where we take fruits and vegetables that are high in anti-inflammatory properties and pair them with water-soluble CBD. We’re proud that we’re a Black-owned business that strives to serve our local community.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Our proudest moment is that we took a leap and started this business. Our first event is a testament to our courage and determination. We had so much support from family, friends, and the community, we were able to sell out of our product on day one.
