Meet Jasmin Johnson of Rootin’ for You

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmin Johnson.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Before starting my business, I was an insurance agent for 4 years. Spending the majority of my time working towards someone else’s dream just didn’t sit well with me. In December 0f 2020, I found a doula course that fit my needs. I continued to work my 9-5, until one day I decided I had reached my limit.

In August of 2021, I got my LLC and started putting action behind my ideas. I had always been into self-care. Even as an 8-year-old, I was walking around with honey on my face begging my mom to buy anti-aging creams. My interest in taking care of the body came naturally to me. Through life experiences, I learned how deeply the mind, body, and spirit were connected. I’ll never forget the day Issa Rae stood in front of a camera and said, “I’m rooting for everybody black”.

That statement truly resonated with me so much that it inspired the name of my business. Being able to service the people in the community I grew up in is the most rewarding thing I could’ve asked for. I would like to see all of the families I work with a win. I wish the best to anybody coming to me for intuitive messages as well. I encourage everyone that comes across my path to never leave their cup empty; reclaim your time. Maintaining the integrity of my “why” has gotten me this far in about a year. And it will continue to propel me forward.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I struggled a lot with imposter syndrome, in the beginning. I had my doula certification for months before I mustered up the courage to use it. I noticed a lot of women getting their certifications and, for various reasons, never using them. I knew I didn’t want to be like that, so I kept moving forward. Even as I was submitting business proposals and interviewing to work with agencies, I was so unsure of myself.

It felt like I was casting a net into nothing. Because my actions aligned with my dreams, I started getting the results that I wanted. This gave me a confidence boost. I also spent a lot of time loving myself, journaling, and doing affirmation work. This helped rewire my thought process. I truly had to believe that I deserved all of the blessings coming my way for them to be released.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Rootin’ for You?
Rootin’ for You is a Dallas-based business whose main focus is to uplift expecting families. With our wellness and self-care knowledge, we help you replenish naturally. Through our birth-keeping services, we offer guidance and support throughout pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. Rootin’ for You is different from other doula services because we also push the importance of holistic self-care.

Usually, as parents, once your kids are taken care of everything else falls by the wayside. We all want to show up as our best selves, but you can’t pour from an empty cup. So whether, you’re coming to me for doula services, natural self-care products, or you’re looking for an intuitive message you can get all of that from one place.

This business is all about staying rooted and having a stable foundation. With our mothers, the mission is to support and guide them into having the birth they deserve. Never put your wants and needs on the back burner. Reclaiming your time and taking up space is one of the most reaffirming actions you can take. We’re doing that not only with birth but also through our daily actions. We fully support doing what feels good.

What do you think about happiness?
I think happiness is something you have to attain yourself. You have to be willing to peel back the layers and work through them to understand what is fulfilling for you alone. In the “Spiritual Gangster” doula package, I provide journal prompts for my clients, do readings and affirmation work throughout our time together. Having a rooted foundation will help you show up for your child in the most ideal way. It will look different for everybody, but it’s of the same importance. Holistic self-care directly ties into prioritizing peace, love, and happiness. This is what we’re rooting for.
