Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmin Zimmerman.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jasmin. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After high school, I was lost as to what I wanted to do with my life. I was thinking of joining the military for all the wrong reasons. Later, I started going to community college and felt like I was going somewhere but I just didn’t know what my calling was. I was still a little confused as to what I wanted to do but came across a commercial for Ogle Beauty School in Fort Worth. I decided to call and book a tour. The day I took the tour I decided I was going to sign up as soon as possible. That was the best decision I have ever made.
Fast forward a few months I graduated school and started an apprenticeship. Fast forward about a year and a half I decided to move out on my own and start my business. Since then, it has been five years that I have been working for myself and I could not be more thankful to my family and clients for helping me get to where I am at now. My family has always had my back and supported me along with my clients that keep trusting me!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It hasn’t always been easy. When I first started on my own I didn’t have any clientele. I was having to work a second job to be able to make it through. Little-by-little my books started filling up and I was able to quit my second job within six months. Ever since then, my career has only gotten better. I am just glad that I was motivated enough to keep on going before giving up and not being able to find out what I could have done in this industry. Sometimes life itself makes it very difficult to keep pushing. I recently lost my mom in November 2018. You know it’s one of those things that makes you wanna give up on everything. Getting out of bed and having to get to work was very hard during this time. Concentrating at work was also a big struggle.Thankfully, I have amazing clients that understood my situation and were there for me not just as clients but as friends.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Currently, I am located at Phenix Salon Suites off of Camp Bowie. I do cuts and any type of color. My clients love to be extreme sometimes which is why I love what I do. Lol, I work with blondes, natural colors and plenty of vivids as well. We all love to be bold sometimes! 90% of the time I am doing big transformations which are my favorite. Yes, they take hours but you can’t rush it. One thing I am proud of is just the fact that I am able to offer a place where anyone can come and pamper themselves. Life is stressful and I love that my clients can come see me and forget about all that for the time they are here. Being able to bring confidence back into someone’s life is so rewarding! Their happiness is my priority.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was very shy. Always hated to be the center of attention. If I was, I would end up crying of how embarrassing it was lol I am glad I grew out of that. If someone would have told me that I was going to grow up to be a hairdresser and be my own boss I wouldn’t have believed them. First, because I was too shy and unmotivated to try to run a business and second because I didn’t know I could ever get good at doing hair Lol My mom had always wanted to be a business owner. So to see her dreams come true made me want to work even harder to make mine come true. Till this day, she is and always will be my motivation.
