Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Brown.
Jasmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started doing faux locs about three years ago. I would install them on myself as a protective style for my natural hair. I got a lot of compliments and inquiries about me installing them on others. It wasn’t something I was opposed to doing because I’m used to installing other styles for females so installing faux locs would be an addition to the other hairstyles I service in.
I would say that of all years this year is my busiest with installing locs. I’ve dedicated more time to it than I have previous years. Aside from word of mouth, a lot of females have been exposed to my work through social media platforms and that’s played a big part in me getting the exposure that I have now.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Honestly, I would say more so no than yes. I have a really huge support system and they have definitely contributed to helping my business get started and ensuring that it’s going good with no problems. I also have clients that are so understanding and patient with me and that makes my job easiest.
The biggest issue for me has been time. I do have another job and that does limit the time I have to do hair.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with JayBeeLocs – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I specialize in installing a variety of faux locs: regular faux locs, goddess locs, bohemian locs, gypsy locs, Indian locs, jaybee locs (created by myself), and yarn locs. I do install other braid styles as well but locs are my most popular style. I’m very known for my JayBeeLocs. Those were the first set of locs that I installed on myself and what got me the most exposure.
Being able to put a smile on my clients face is what makes me most happy about my company. I’m able to make their hair look the exact way they wanted. There are a lot of skilled stylist in this area that service in the same styles as myself, and to know that the client has chosen me to me to trust with their hair is also an
appreciated feeling.
I build good relationships with my clients and I believe that is something that I am most respected for. When I have a new client I make sure that I listen to what it is they want. I provide all information about the style they’re inquiring about because Its what they need to know. I’m an open book with my clients and I want them to know that I care about their hair as much as I care about my own.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I am going to make this a full-time job. I am looking forward to expanding my hours and seeing how much my clientele builds from there. I am also looking into hiring an assistant. There are so many ideas that come to me that’s going to benefit my company it’s just all about putting them into action.
