Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Ervin.
Jasmine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am 28 years old. I was born with Turner’s Syndrome. Turner’s Syndrome is a chromosomal disorder in which a female is born with only one “x” chromosome. At birth, I was given only three days live — but GOD is good. Here I am today, thanking God through my dance Ministry. I developed the love of dance at the age of 8 and til this day, I haven’t lost that passion. Although a lot of trials and tribulations have been thrown my way with my health, the passing of my sisters and father. I still give GOD what I owe him. Not to mention at the age of 21, my life was turned upside down. One day while at work, I completely lost my vision. I went to several doctors and they had given up on me, saying that I would never be able to see again– but like I said earlier, God is good. Although I am still declared legally blind after four eye surgeries; I am blessed to be able to see a little bit. And with that, I use it to bless God in dance.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road but with GOD, a praying mother, Pastor, Supportive Husband, sisters and church family, I have sustained the obstacles that have been thrown at me thus far. I believe that as long as I continue my spiritual relationship with God there is always room for growth. Also because of my Turner’s Syndrome, I have bad days too where I am waking up in much pain because my body hurts so bad but with the love and drive of GOD, I push through.
Please tell us about GOD’s Destiny Ministry – what should we know?
The name of my Ministry is GOD’s Destiny. Its purpose is to minister to my fellow brothers and sisters in Christ through dance. I want to show others that there is life after disability. Although I am legally blind, I thank GOD that I am still able to dance. I am proud and thankful that I am able to dance and bless others through my dance ministry. One of the proudest moments was when I was asked to dance on TV with one of the many churches that I fellowship with. Another proud moment is when I was invited to minister at a church in St. Louis.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
First giving honor to God who is the head of my life.
My mother/Pastor Cynthia Houston of Believer’s of Christ who has always been my support system. She is my “She-ro”.
My step-dad Co-pastor Houston who has been there for me while my biological dad is unable due to his passing. He has stepped in to be the father figure that I need in my life.
My mentor Apostle J. Tweedy Thomas who has always been one of my major spiritual supporters. She has also been one of the most inspirational leaders that have come across in my spiritual journey.
My Husband Darryl Ervin for always being by my side and helping me pick out my songs, and encouraging me to keep on pushing through all my endeavors.
My hairdresser “Cip” who tells me to always know that I am beautiful inside and out.
My cousin Arnita Johnson-Hall who has truly been an inspiration to me and lets me know that you can achieve any goal that you strive to be the best in.
My sister Lashunna Guy who has given me spiritual, encouraging and loving words when needed.
Last but not least My wonderful God-Sister Jazmen Humphries who has truly been my backbone and supporter in my life throughout all my adversities. She truly has been an inspiration to me. There are not enough words to express the magnitude of my appreciation and love for her.
I want to thank each and every one of them for their love and support. Even those whom I did not name, you all play a major part in my life.
