Myst E-Cigs began as an online-only Vapor Shop in mid-2012 started by Michael Rasor and Jason Tamplin. As demand grew they decided to open their first brick and mortar location in May of 2014 in West Fort Worth just outside of Rigmar Mall.
“The main focus of Myst E-Cigs is to get people away from Big Tobacco and the cancer sticks.” says Michael. “Half of my family died due to smoking-related illnesses. Every person we can get away from the death dealers is a win.”
Jason says, “At Myst E-Cigs you will find that our focus is on the customer and our service over profits and new cars. Vaping should be more affordable, more customizable, and more enjoyable than smoking ever was. We smoked because we had too. We vape because we enjoy it and the freedom from cigarettes.”
Over the years the shop has expanded and seen many improvements. Myst E-Cigs remains committed to carrying the top Vapor products for Dallas Fort Worth and beyond.
Has it been a smooth road?
This was the first brick and mortar store Michael and I had opened. So, we had a lot to learn, and a lot of mistakes to make along the way.
Luckily, we always had support from our customer base, and family. When we ran out of a product, customers would wait instead of jumping ship. When we were tight on funds, we always managed to make it by, and learned how to budget a continually turning and growing inventory.
We made sure that we always put our customers first. The staff has always known that taking care of our customers is the top priority. We make sure their experience in our shop is a good one no matter what.
The biggest recent challenge was conforming to the FDA’s new “Deeming Regulations”. This required new labels for our juice, new procedures for staff, FDA registrations, and education for our customers as to why we now needed to charge for samples. However, given all of that, we have continued to grow throughout the process, and are preparing to open out second shop in 2018. The future is bright!

Here at MYST, we have two main driving factors for our existence. The first is to do our part in putting an end to combustible cigarettes and the harm they cause. The second is to offer the best customer service of any vape shop out there. We hope that in doing so we can grow into a well-known brand throughout DFW.
Our product selection is one of the largest in Dallas/Ft Worth; even with just one shop. Our website offers customers the opportunity to take advantage of in-store sales, such as our “Happy Hour” even if they can’t make it in. Out of state customers can take advantage of our prices, which we are proud to keep far below most retail vape store prices.
I think the service, and commitment to always go the extra mile for both our staff, and customers is the thing that sets our brand apart from other vape shops. We even add a handwritten note to all of our online orders.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel like the South, in general, has accepted our industry faster, and in doing so, allowed shops to pick up the latest products faster.
Dallas/Fort Worth, along with the surrounding suburbs are a great place for a shop. We definitely are still coming back down from a flood of new vape shops that opened during the 2014-2016 time period. Now, with new FDA regulations, and fierce competition the field is being weeded out.
I think municipalities, in general, should seek out knowledge on our industry before crafting new ordinances, I’d also point out that some states have placed heavy taxation and requirements on the vape industry that resulted in many businesses closing. I think if they understood what it is that we stand for, and the good that comes from an alternative to traditional tobacco, they would not want these outcomes.
As Dallas already has a strict smoking ordinance, and Ft Worth will soon vote on expanding theirs, I would simply like to see vape shops brought more actively into those conversations. I’m sure most owners would welcome the opportunity to have that dialogue with Councilmembers.
