Today we’d like to introduce you to Jatia Gilliano.
Jatia, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all pretty much started when I started a modeling career at 16. By 20, I had worked in both Chicago and New York as a trade/print model. By 32, I was a mother of three and my modeling days were long behind me. So, I thought… being a mother of three (two with disabilities) didn’t leave much time to continue modeling, let alone work a traditional job. In 2017 my husband and I moved our family from Chicago to Texas. I still missed modeling very much and had grown in love with the world of fashion.
In 2018 I officially announced the opening of Eccentric Boutique. I really wanted to encourage women to embrace their beauty no matter what age. I believe all women, no matter work at home, stay at home or career, should be able to buy affordable, stylish, classy clothing at affordable prices. We know that boutiques are usually pretty expensive, however, at Eccentric Boutique, I wanted women to experience a real boutique experience without the extreme cost. My first store location was located in at 6322 Brentwood Stair, Fort Worth but has since closed. Eccentric is now completely online, except for the occasional pop-up shops I attend. I am my own brand as I do all the modeling and marketing for Eccentric Boutique. I pride myself in offering great customer service and a free gift with every purchase.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road. I opened my store location and website at the same time, which was a lot of work. I took a planned space a transformed it into a cute little store. I pretty much designed the store by myself. This included the painting, carpeting, dressing room design etc. I also created my own website and have and will continue to model my own clothing.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I am the owner and creator of my brand and boutique. I specialize in styling others, and I am known for modeling my own clothing. Not a lot of boutique owners model their own clothing, that help set me apart from others. Because I do model my own clothing, I am very proud of that. It takes a lot of confidence and that is what I want my customers to feel when they shop with Eccentric Boutique.
What were you like growing up?
I was a pretty bubbly child up into my adolescent age and then I became shy. I had a huge love for anything beauty or fashion related. My mother, studied cosmetology so I would always read her study books which is how I learned how to apply makeup, do my hair, and take care of my skin. I made it well known by 16 that I wanted to do something in the fashion or beauty world.
