Meet Javier Villalobos of Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Javier Villalobos.

Hi Javier, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been taking photographs all my life— point and shoot film cameras and then digi cams at family get togethers. My grand father and my mother were avid picture takers and it was always present in my life. Not until 4-5 years ago did I begin taking photos more seriously or more within the realm of street photography. Ever since then my camera and I have been inseparable.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My mother‘s Alzheimer’s catapulted me into the idea of documenting my days mainly for myself for later review. The idea of forgetting who I am or forgetting the people around me frightened me and taking photographs scratched that itch. I stumbled into street photography a few years late after its big resurgence in 2020 and beyond the average struggles of missing shots or lack of confidence in shooting street in a place like Texas. I forged onwards and decided that I truly enjoyed the hunt of interesting and eye-catching images.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a street photographer in Garland, a suburb of Dallas, Texas. While other photographers usually have intent or a job to fulfill when they have their cameras I’m usually in search of scenes of people that intrigue me or I think are interesting. Such as a man standing with his back to the camera, a cowboy hat and boots on and a folded bandana in his back pocket— standing infront of the beer selection. Perhaps a construction worker laying on his back with his face covered, taking a nap in the shade during his lunch break. What might set me apart from other photographers are my images and how they might spark a curiosity in the viewer to create their own narrative or story for the photograph.

Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can reach out to my email or on my socials to send me a message and we can discuss and elaborate further on the details of a collaboration. If people want to support me, don’t be shy, shoot me a message on Instagram or leave a comment on some of the photographs that I’ve shared.
