Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Bass.
Hi Jay, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m originally from Dayton, Ohio, and have been living here in DFW for 13 years. I come from very humble beginnings being an inner-city kid. Growing up my mentality was everything is earned not given. Once I moved to Texas, I was exposed to wealth which intrigued me beyond belief. My introduction to the financial industry came shortly after a basketball injury in college. I attended Texas A&M commerce and was originally majoring in computer engineering. Once I realized my future was no longer going to be related to basketball. I quickly changed my major to finance. That ultimately changed the trajectory of my life. I went on to get my MBA in finance and eventually landed my first job as a wealth manager. After spending several years in that space. I felt a huge desire to help people that come from a similar background as me. Also, those who aren’t afforded the opportunity which I’ve been given. This led me to Rise sports advisors in which we help professional athletes find their purpose and build their legacy beyond athletics. We do this through finance and education. This was basically becoming my purpose realized.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been far from smooth. But it has ultimately been worth it. In the financial industry, the standard is to hire someone with experience and also relatable to you. With me coming from the inner city and being a young minority. A lot of times I did not fit that mold. This on its own provided many challenges. Through a lot of guidance, patience, and perseverance I was able to overcome that.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Rise sports advisors?
I am the Director of Business Development for Rise sports advisors. I also lead all investment deal flow, due diligence, and portfolio allocation. The biggest thing that set me apart is not only my knowledge and experience of the industry. But also being one of the youngest doing it.

We do that through trusted management, legacy building strategies, and providing one-of-a-kind alternative deal flow. We want to be the number 1 firm in DFW for athletes that desire to be entrepreneurs and build something outside of their respected sport.
Our services consist of portfolio management, CFO services, client relation services, mentorship, tax and accounting, and legal.
Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
The biggest lesson learned for me is that your life will never be fulfilled until you identify your purpose and pursue that relentlessly. Once you have identified your purpose and you are able to operate in that 100% you will find fulfillment. The misconception is that material things will provide fulfillment but I’ve learned that it is all temporary and will be replaced with new desires.
