Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Reverie and Jamal Aaron.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’m from Chicago, Illinois where I believe that the arts, music & creatives breed. There is so much creativity in the city. I lived in Chicago until I was 20. Towards the end of 2014, this is when I moved to Dallas where my brothers lived.
I moved because I dropped out of college & didn’t know what I wanted to do with my life. I started working in the corporate controlled environment. I then tried to Reinvent myself and become someone. To be a public figure. To be a man of many talents. A Renaissance man if you would. I was always heavily influenced by music of various genres. For example. Old school hip hop, r&b, new school rap, r&b, indie, alternative r&b, electric, alternative rock etc. …. so, started trying to become a music enthusiast, artist manager. Really anything that I could fit in involving music. So, I took a trip back to Chicago where I have a Chicago photographer friend Nate. He shot my very first photoshoot. While shooting I saw that it was more than taking a photo.
He had specific music playing creating a natural vibe. He started taking photos as if he was creating art in mid-air. That stuck with me on my airplane ride back to Dallas. Doing a photoshoot on a rooftop in the middle of the City and creating something that was art in a picture. I then decide to buy a camera and started my journey as a photographer. I created playlist of various genres of music to compliment my photography. As always trying to achieve your goals you will have your ups & downs regardless. Which is what happened. But you have to keep pushing along & have that drive to continue. As of now I have done various Photoshoots ranging from lifestyle model shoots to family & branded shoots. My photography name is Jay Reverie. Which jay is my nickname & reverie meaning lost in one’s thoughts or to daydream. As a photographer I want my clients to be lost in their own or even my thoughts. To think of the shoot as a daydream as everything is lost in the world and that only one thing matters…
Please tell us about your art.
My art is photography. to create art through a photo. To create an emotion through a photo. My message is that you can create are in any way you choose but you have to have that drive to continue doing what you Eva passion for without anyone’s exception. With my art work you will see the mood or emotion that I am aiming for. It’s to take my vision & create it. It’s to take your vision & create it & hope the audience/fans enjoy it too.
Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
When dealing with photography it can be expensive but that’s IF you have a different preference on what you want in your art. I would say stick with what you HAVE & get the most out of it! You will be surprised of how much you will create. You will surprise yourself with your own creativeness that you thought you never had. The rest will come as long as you continue to stay TRUE you your art & to continue to have that drive. As drive is guaranteed the only that will keep you going. Motivation helps indefinitely but helps continue that drive you NEED.
