Today we’d like to introduce you to Jay Tre.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up listening to cassettes and CDs at any garage sales from Michael Jackson, mc hammer or nirvana. I believe music has no color or race, if it feels right, it sounds good. At the age of 9, freestyling was a way of life for me, I finally started writing at 14. All high school I pushed to become better and lost a lot of moments like prom to be in the studio. I use to sneak into concerts to speak to some of these big timers just to give out my music, if not get that one person to remember your name. I told Murder D.O.C that us Hispanics are out here getting our rep out too, also got great advice from huge producers like J. Rhodes to S1. I say this because building relationships are key to this industry, don’t burn bridges that helped you get across. I say this to anyone out there. You can do anything you want. Be passionate, work hard and stay focused.
Please tell us about your art.
I make hip/rap music based off the experiences I have in life and put the emotion in to it. I do it because it gives my life purpose, it’s my therapy to get by thought the day. My message is to show people music is universal, be open minded to all genres. I hope everyone is able to find their passion and utilize their gifts. Sometimes the song has no message. It’s about what you feel in the time and place.
Do you have any advice for other artists? Any lessons you wished you learned earlier?
Keep trying keep trying keep trying, even when your hope is lost, Create. Get yourself out that negative phase. Surround yourself with like-minded people willing to grow with you. We all go through it.
