Today we’d like to introduce you to Jayla Smith
Hi Jayla, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a quick glimpse of my life , I was born and raised in Plano, TX and graduated from Plano East in 2017. College was a on and off thing for me, I was not sure where I wanted to take my career or what I even wanted to study. For years I tried to do many things to see where exactly I “fit in”, many failures came along the way although I still kept my head high and let God lead the way. Fast forward , for my New Year’s resolution for 2025 I promised myself to find a hobby, to practice it and stick with it. My fiancé’s birthday was in January and I was low on money to buy her a cake like I wanted. I decided to use my resources and bake her a cake. After watching a whole bunch of videos and ordering supplies from Amazon, I had everything I needed to try and execute a cake. To my surprise I had got so many great feedback on my first cake that I decided to go further with it. I started making practice cakes and later implemented treats. After seeing how surprisingly good I am at it for a beginner I wanted to dive into it more and more. Eventually I took a leap of faith back in February to try out this hobby and became serious about it. I learned and failed many times but each order I got to do I got better within such a short amount of time. I’ve gained a lot of support from family and friends and AMAZING feedback, I had to keep going. Now I have a full instagram and Facebook page that I love posting content on and can honestly say it’s up from here. God knew where I needed to be and showed me my gift.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road is still continuing. Yes, there have been a lot of trial and error and things I could’ve done differently when starting out. But that’s all apart of the process of growing and investing into something you love. Mistakes happen and I’m sure I’m not done making them, although without them there’s no learning experience. I learn from each order I do and what I can do better?, what can I add?,how can I create my designs better?, what additional materials do I need to exceed to the next level?. There’s always questions I ask myself and those questions help me broaden my creativity. Overall I focus on just having fun with what I’m doing, I keep my thoughts on being positive and not letting anything negative take over
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
When I’m not doing treats or baking , I work my regular 9-5 job. I’ve always been in customer service/ hospitality industry so I’m very advanced on my customer/client skills. I’m known for being open, friendly, bold, not afraid to try new things, always giving a helping hand and being a leader. One thing most know me /remembers me for is my loud laugh, I’m a very tickled person and loved to be humored.
I’m proud of many things, I had to fail a lot to get to where God has brought me today, there was a time where I had to start completely over with my life as I was falling down the deepest hole. Meeting my true love is definitely someone who I am proud of, if it wasn’t for her I probably wouldn’t be as far as I am today. She pushes and motivates me in more ways than ever, she cheers on all my accomplishments and makes me want to continue doing what I’m doing.
I have a lot of creative ideas that comes on in my brain. When I set my mind to do something I want to execute it. I DIY anything I know I can do and just go for it. I love learning how to do things when it comes to building, dancing , doing hair, doing in nails, cooking, baking etc. It’s a never ending thing, most people don’t even know how creative I am until I post about it or mention it. I’m like a lot of people that want to keep their mind and body occupied, although once learn anything I keep it going. I encourage people to do the same all the time because you never know what gift God has blessed you with until you try.
What are your plans for the future?
As of right now my fiancé and I are wedding planning and are very excited about that as we get married next year in 2026. So our focus is working and saving money for our big day and honeymoon, and eventually start our journey on having a family. Other than that I do pray and hope my journey with making treats takes me somewhere and opens opportunities for me.
