Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaylin Williams.
Jaylin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
San Antonio, Las Vegas, Chicago, Miami, Oklahoma City, New York City and Selected to host and perform at the Lit Lounge in Austin, Texas. It would have been Jaykid’s 2nd concert at the 2020 South by Southwest annual music festival. Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic took its toll, shutting down all festivities.
When it comes to critiquing his clients in the studio, Jaykid means business. This kid is not afraid to tell it like it is and is always reaching for the grand prize. That’s what shaped him into the unique and bonafide artist and producer he is today.
“Never let anyone tell you what you can and can’t do,” Williams says. “Don’t let anyone tell you how to invest your money. Set goals for yourself and focus on those goals until you complete them. When you accomplish your goals, set new ones, never give up on your dreams.”
The sky is the limit and Jaykid’s mentality is to stay hungry to make sure his dreams go above and beyond. “I need to remain focused,” Williams says. “I need to make sure I stay humble, keep pushing to be successful and shop my music commercially.”
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Growing up was a bit challenging for me. Once diagnosed with diabetes at the age of one. I knew nothing. By age ten, my character just became rude. I didn’t understand the magnitude of the illness, and once I took over the responsibilities to manage it myself, I realized I wasn’t ready yet, and my life began to spiral-out-of-control, my poor dieting caused sugar levels to rise and life-threatening complications awaited. So, I became enraged, mad and developed a bad. I don’t give a F*ck type attitude. It was hard. I felt hopeless, anger, full of anxiety, depression and these were some of the emotions I was going through.
Once I come to terms with the condition, I had to learn to be true to who I am, knowing my self-worth, trusting in my own intuition, excepting and coping with diabetes through education, support groups and first and foremost through family support.
After overcoming adversity, I refused to give up. I pushed myself in the right path to succeed in life. As a child, I remember getting my first Christmas keyboard/piano tinkering around making beats with the different sounds of each keystroke, learning to fingerpick and play tunes such as the theme song Halloween by John and Cody Carpenter and Lean on Me by the late Bill Withers. Plenty of fun during my childhood days. And now, I can absolutely say that piano helped contributed to my likings of creating the baddest ass beats of today. Yep, you heard me!
