Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeana Delano.
Jeana, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
“My career has been quite a journey, spanning over the course of the last thirty-two years.” It’s true what they say, “Time flies when you’re having fun.” I feel like I was born into the beauty industry. My whole family on my Mom’s side are hairdressers. I grew up in a hair salon, literally. I was sweeping hair, booking appointments every day after school and on weekends.
Growing up the most important thing to me was to get my cosmetology license and hone my craft. All I wanted was to be the best hair stylist and work with the best. I remember like it was yesterday, attending my first hair show in 1985. I was completely blown away by the esteemed Toni & Guy Artistic team. Fate was definitely on my side that day, shortly after the hair show I ran into the CEO Bruno Mascolo. It was then and there that I asked (begged) to apply for their apprenticeship program. I’m forever grateful to Bruno Mascolo for giving me my start. After several years of long hours and hard work I was part of the Artistic team.
Following my successful career as a Dallas stylist, I sought out opportunities in Hollywood. I spent the next 5 years building my portfolio in film, video and print as a freelance hair stylist and makeup artist. I worked for all the major studios, ABC, CBS, NBC and Disney just to name a few. It was really exciting meeting and working with all the celebrities.
Seeing first-hand the effects that heavy makeup, long hours, stress and lack of sleep have on the skin, I became passionate about skin care. I began working at an exclusive French spa in Beverly Hills, building my clientele. I really loved the one on one relationship you build with services. I believe having great skin in everything! Because personality is not the first thing people see.
After several years of working, learning and growing my talents in Los Angeles it was time to come back home to Dallas. Since moving back, I’ve worked for med spas, boutique spas, day spas and owned a facial and waxing studio. I’ve won awards for Aesthetics and have been published in trade magazines Skin Inc. and Dermascope.
It was four years ago that I began working for PUREBEAUTY Salon and Spa as an Aesthetician. I was only working for six Months when our manager resigned and I was offered her position. I am so happy I made the decision to transition into management. I’m so proud and fortunate to work for and with such amazing talent. I am eager to continue this journey and work harder than ever before.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s never a smooth road. You know what they say, “If you go in search of honey expect to get stung by bees.”
One of the biggest challenges I’ve had is to earn the trust and respect of my team. I’ve learned a lot about how to deal with difficult situations.
I follow the four R’s to overcome obstacles in the workplace. Recognize the issue at hand, Reflect on what the problem is, stay Resilient with a course of action and commit to a Resolution.
