Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeanne Boyd-Curtis and Gary Boyd.
Gary, Jeanne – please share the story with us.
Gary, owner of Boyd, Inc. grew up in Anson, Texas. A small rural city outside of Abilene. His mother and father owned the local hardware store, Boyd Lumber. Gary spent his school years working afternoons and weekends at the Boyd Lumber Yard. To the surprise of many, when Gary graduated High School he went off to Waco, Texas where he attended Baylor University and Majored in English with a minor in Ministry.
After graduating from Baylor, Gary pursued a career in ministry and received his Masters of Divinity from Golden Gate Seminary in California. Though he enjoyed his ministry career, the calling of his childhood labor never quieted and in 1974 Gary opened Boyd, Inc., a roofing and construction company currently based in Mansfield, Texas.
In 1981, Gary married Jean Rose, a teacher from Quincy, Massachusetts. Jean and her daughter Jeanne quickly got settled into Texas and Jean began working at the company with Gary where she still works today. Shortly after their marriage, Gary adopted Jeanne and later Gary & Jean adopted their daughter, Amanda, who currently works in the medical industry. Their daughter Jeanne however pursued a career in education. Jeanne graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a BA in Speech Communications. She later received her Master’s in Mid-Management. After serving nearly 22 years in the education field as a teacher, assistant principal and a principal, Jeanne left education to keep her father’s dynasty growing. Jeanne has now been with Boyd, Inc. since 2015 where they have nearly doubled their cliental and have plans to further expand their industry.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As the company has gotten more mature there has always been an ominous tone of “what’s next”. Prior to Jeanne coming on, Gary was unsure of the future of the company and expected to have to sell his family’s legacy.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Boyd – what should we know?
The company currently has two divisions, a Roofing/Construction Division managed and lead by Jeanne’s ex-husband, Peter Pakele and a Consulting Division managed and lead by Gary. Jeanne currently serves as operations over both divisions but runs all operations, scheduling, and reporting within the Consulting Division.
The Roofing/Construction Division, provides comprehensive commercial roofing services, from leak detection and roof repairs to new roofing systems and coating applications. Their services include diagnostics, leak detection, repairs, restoration and complete replacement of commercial roof systems.
The Consulting Division provides roof inspections, reports, estimates and comparative pricing. Within the consulting division, their weather department has the ability to track storms and verify wind & hail events at a specific location. Boyd also specializes in Appraisals, Expert Testimonies and Umpire work.
We have expanded our consulting area to include Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kansas, Arkansas, South Carolina, Colorado, Indiana, and Texas.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?

Jeanne Curtis, daughter of Gary & Jean is Chief Operations Officer. Peter Pakele, is Jeanne’s ex-husband who oversees the Roofing Division. Darin McEwen, a Senior Consultant is the best friend of Ryan Curtis, Jeanne’s husband. Mary Durio, in Research & Reporting attended college with Jeanne and they have been friends for over 25 years. The Boyd Team is also blessed to have Deborah Johnson, Steve Shearin, and Payton Rysor who also work at Boyd as well as an expert roofing team. Many of which have been with the company for decades!
On any given day, you are likely to also see Jeanne’s two sons up at the company. Jacob Pakele (Jeanne’s & Peter’s son) is headed to ACU in the fall to pursue a career in Ministry. (We all know where that is headed 😉 Jacob often runs the drone for Boyd inspections. Cooper Curtis (Jeanne’s & Ryan’s son) is entering first grade and has big plans to be President of the United States AFTER serving as a roof inspector. Cooper frequently travels up to Boyd with his mom after school and looks forward to his chance to drive the dump trucks.
