Today we’d like to introduce you to JeMese and Kelvin Chamberlain.
Kelvin and JeMese met in college at Dallas Institute of Funeral Service and became friends. Upon graduation, while Kelvin remained in Dallas and secured his apprenticeship, JeMese returned to Oklahoma to pursue a degree at the University of Central Oklahoma while serving her apprenticeship in Oklahoma City and Tulsa. Kelvin and JeMese became licensed in 1997, and the two united in marriage in 1999 after JeMese graduated with a focus in Interpersonal Communication and Business.
They made their home in Dallas, as Kelvin had begun employment at Restland Funeral Home in October of 1997 as a night embalmer. In 2002, JeMese joined Restland Funeral Home as a funeral director. Kelvin performed his way to Assistant Chief Embalmer. In 2004, Kelvin and JeMese welcomed their older daughter, Kelsey Alexys. Shortly after Kelsey’s birth, Kelvin decided to pursue management at Stewart Enterprises. Promoted in 2004, Kelvin transitioned to his first management role as General Manager at Metrocrest Funeral Home & Hilltop Memorial Park.
In 2006, Kelvin was promoted to General Manager of Laurel Land Funeral Home & Memorial Park. Next, he served as Director of Operations for the South Dallas market. In this capacity, Kelvin oversaw the operation of three funeral homes (Laurel Land, Singing Hills, and David Clayton & Sons), two cemeteries (Laurel Land and Little Bethel), a vault plant, and a flower shop (Rembrandt Florist).
In 2007, JeMese was promoted to Assistant Manager of Restland. In 2009, she resigned as a result of a complicated delivery of their younger daughter, Katelyn Elise. In 2012, Kelvin was promoted to Executive Director for the South Dallas market. In this role, Kelvin oversaw the same entities in addition to Gonzalez Funeral Homes in Dallas and Mesquite, which were integrated into Stewart from independent ownership under his guidance. In May of 2013, it was publicly announced that Service Corporation International and Stewart Enterprises entered into a merger agreement. With faith, the two began working on ownership. They secured a contract for the property located at 333 West Avenue D and 315 S. 3rd Street in Garland, Texas 75040.
On December 23, 2013, the merger was consummated. Exactly one month later, Kelvin and JeMese became the owners of Chamberland Funerals and Cremations. Kelvin and JeMese own the 1.77 acres and the business that adorns the acreage. Chamberland opened its doors to serve on April 2, 2014, and the rest is a story in the making. For almost four years now, Kelvin and JeMese have been pleased to serve families from various ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds – intimately and personally without limits.
Has it been a smooth road?
Establishing Chamberland has been a journey of faithfulness. There were many times of doubt and fear, especially at the beginning of this journey. We literally stepped out of a financial comfort zone with the corporation…into a world of what would prove to be uncertainty, fear, anxiety, disappointment, and grief. Many times, we felt isolation…the feeling that no one could possibly understand our story, our choice to establish Chamberland…particularly as we endured the valleys of growth and severed relationships with those who proved to be distractions in our determination. Yet, over the past almost four years, our faith has grown incredibly. Our competence has grown. Our discernment has sharpened. Our intimacy has matured. Our love has truly blossomed. And, Chamberland has thrived.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
Offering comprehensive burial and cremation services, Chamberland Funerals & Cremations is a resource for families before, upon, and after the transition of a loved one. Chamberland provides service that the high-volume and corporate providers cannot sufficiently ensure.
With sales-driven competitors, we choose to balance respect for our business with meeting our families’ needs. We delight in every opportunity to enlighten consumers through group seminars and one-on-one consultations before death occurs. By this, we build relationships and solidify our trustworthiness before families need our service.
Our team is esteemed to serve personally with excellence so that each experience is memorable for our families and honorable for their loved ones – all within reasonable expectations to ensure dignity and legacy. Our motto – which was prayerfully and carefully chosen – sets us apart from all others: Your Experience is Our Signature!
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Garland is a good place for any business. We anticipate the continued transformation of historic downtown Garland into a more contemporary, industry-diverse scene, as Garland is a central location where we can seamlessly and conveniently serve many North Dallas communities. We are also grateful that the integrity of Chamberland’s service has taken us beyond North Dallas.
