Meet Jenna Kidwell of Gypsy Lash Boutique in East Dallas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jenna Kidwell.

Jenna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My passion for lashes actually started with getting lash extensions myself. I fell in love with the way they enhanced my features, as well as how easy they made my morning routine. I upkept them religiously with my fill appointments every 2-3 weeks for about a year while working a job that I was less than passionate about. My decision to dive first into quitting my job and going full time to school for my eyelash extension specialty license was a sudden and sure one. I literally just woke up one morning and told my husband I wanted to own my own lash biz. I found a beauty school and quit my job very soon after. I was confident that this was what I was meant to do and my husband could not have been more supportive. After receiving my license, I started out in an adorable little suite in Plano with zero clients, but with a determined heart. Gypsy Lash Boutique was mine! In the beginning, I was able to just pay my rent and put my needed supplies on a credit card. My little biz began to grow however and the more women I met and gave confidence through the medium of lash extensions, the more fulfilled I became. It has been a little over two years since I first opened shop and I am now located in the historic Casa Linda Plaza in Dallas, in a new suite with the most wonderful clientele of women.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I don’t think owning your own business will ever be a smooth and straight road, and it is definitely not for everyone. You truly have to love what you do and dig up that inner purpose when the road gets rough. Finding and retaining quality clients was a struggle for me in the beginning. Marketing is HARD and you never know if you’re doing it right. I really had to stick it out some days when I was questioning if I would ever make a profit off of this passion of mine.

Gypsy Lash Boutique – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the sole lash artist and business owner of Gypsy Lash Boutique. I create unique eyelash extension sets specifically for you and your lifestyle in a warm and relaxing environment. While I do offer a selection of different lash styles, my specialty is the hard to find ‘Megavolume’ lashes. Megavolume lashes offer maximum impact with zero damage to your natural lash and are created by hand forming the lightest weight extensions into a big ole’ volume fan for application to a single natural lash. Each lash set is curated uniquely for you at the time of your appointment which factors in your desired look, natural lash health, face, and eye shape, as well as your everyday life. I am known for offering a variety of lash curls, lengths, colors, and my innovative eye mapping skills. I am proud to offer a luxury service that upholds the saying “quality over quantity”, which translates to longer appointment times and 100% coverage. My clients can all agree that my devotion to top quality work is what sets me apart from the rest.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think that if you ask this question to any self-employed beauty service provider, that one of their proudest moments would probably be the first time they looked at their upcoming work week and saw that they were fully booked. It’s a great feeling to see that and know that others acknowledge your craft and want what you have to offer.
