Meet Jennifer Butler of Jazzercise Midlothian

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Butler.

Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I became a certified Jazzercise Instructor in 2006, and became the owner of Jazzercise Midlothian in late 2014. I grew up in Mesquite, TX and took my first Jazzercise class when a co-worker invited me to attend the classes se taught. It was love at first step. I continued to Jazzercise off and on throughout the years, as my life and jobs allowed. After marrying my husband in 2005, we moved to Midlothian and I became a certified Jazzercise Instructor in May 2006. I taught in several cities throughout the DFW area such as Mesquite, Rowlett, Dallas, Desoto, Cedar Hill, Red Oak, and Midlothian before taking ownership of the Jazzercise Midlothian Fitness Center in late 2014.

Before becoming the owner of Jazzercise Midlothian, I served as the Instructor mentor for all new instructors at our Midlothian Studio. It was my responsibility to work directly with any Midlothian instructor candidate accepted into the Jazzercise, Inc. New Franchisee Training program. I provided movement and technique training and teaching basics as well as support for them post certification. I am immensely proud of my trainees. It is not an easy road to becoming a Jazzercise Instructor and requires many weeks of dedication and rigorous training. Many of my trainees are a part of my Midlothian Instructor Team today.

In 2019, Jazzercise, Inc. celebrated their 50 year anniversary. No small feat, especially in the fitness industry. I was selected as 1 of 6 instructors from the western half of the United States to represent my part of the country during the East vs West class presented to over 4.000 international attendees during the weekend long celebration, held in San Diego, California.

Has it been a smooth road?
No road is ever smooth. Although we have not had many huge hurdles, there are always struggles. We have relocated our facility with minimal time. We have had instructors retire, or resign, or move throughout the years. A leaving instructor, no matter the reason, always leaves a void. Jazzercise is more than just a place to workout. It is a family of sorts.

We have survived economic hardships right along with the rest of the country. This industry is often times considered to be more of a luxury and is usually one of the first things to go when people face financial struggles. Most recently we have dealt with the effects of Covid-19, which forced us to temporarily close our physical doors to our customers. We didn’t let that stop us though. We just learned a new way to bring Jazzercise to our customers with live streaming.

Please tell us about your business.
Jazzercise is the original dance party workout. Blending dance with Pilates, yoga, kickboxing and strength training, one 55-minute session can burn up to 800 calories. No other program has experienced the longevity of Jazzercise. Judi Sheppard Missett built her empire by following her passion. I am inspired by her heart and by her relentless drive to help others not only be successful in their businesses, but to live healthier lives. I could not be more proud to be even a small part of the Jazzercise legacy. Jazzercise is more than a workout class. It is an experience that becomes a lifestyle.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Midlothian is a growing community. It has changed so much since I first drove down Main St., but it has never lost its small town charm. I have seen some of the very best things humanity has to offer in this community. A community that bands together when tragedy strikes. A community that celebrates victories and accomplishments together, but also mourns losses together. A community that is moving with the growth necessary to stay current in an ever-changing world, but doesn’t forget where it’s heritage.
