Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Dixon.
Jennifer, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have carried a love affair with events and photography throughout the majority of my life. I got a pink slider camera with film one year. It was my passport to worlds of my very own during a period in my life when hardship and multiple moves were the norm. The control of setting scenes and staging a moment, then capturing the story was, and is, highly addictive.
When I was able to afford to develop the film, it was a surprise and delight each and every time. Fast forward a bit, I met my best friend, had kids, and then got married. Yep, in that order. So, photography was a favorite hobby for a long time. I started getting more serious about my hobby in 2009, when I graduated from Cosmetology school and was given a full frame camera, from my mother-in-law.
I immersed myself in taking all sorts of portrait shoots during my off time between jobs. I also landed a few second shooter jobs. I even got a job at Glamour Shots as the makeup and hair artist. Then, worked for Walmart Portrait Studio (back in the day when they used film), then worked a variety of jobs trying to make ends meet. In 2014, I took a giant leap of faith and worked hard at being a part-time professional photographer, hoping to go full time.
In 2015, I solely focused on wedding photography. I worked with/ or gained a various education in the wedding industry, got my ordained minister license, then got a chance to become a wedding venue coordinator, which lead me to combine wedding coordinating with photography.
By the end of 2017, I was able to use the wisdom I gained over the past few years to revamp my business and fall back in love with my truth and style in the wedding and styled shoot industry.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I think starting a business, regardless of experience, talent, or education, that there will always be hardship, but that is the beauty of Entrepreneurship. If I had to pinpoint the biggest lessons for me, I would have to say learning and sticking with boundaries. I get so caught up in my desire to help create the perfect wedding with my clients and the romance of it all, that I sometimes overstep and overextend myself.
Over the past year, my family endured moving and waiting on our dream home to be built, which gave me time to step back and re-evaluate the direction my business was going in, and part of that was redefining boundaries, doing a self-awareness reality check, taking a personalized business overhaul class from a seasoned local photographer that I admire and remembering what I’m truly passionate about.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Spirited Photography Events, LLC – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
“I love styled shoots, and weddings like a grown person loves coffee!” Spirited Photography Events, LLC is a wedding photography service that caters to couples and vendors looking for adventure and personalized experience. We specialize in Engagements, Bridal/Groomals, Wedding Photography, and Styled Shoot services.
When you work with Spirited Photography Events, aka yours truly, I’m all about doing a phenomenal job of capturing your story, but also want to maintain the boundary of friend and storyteller.
My ultimate goal from being a photographer would be that my clients look back at their wedding day and say “That was so much fun!” and that their prints give them hope about the future. I’m here to listen, pray over and through the wedding planning process, and uplift my clients, especially if coffee and snacks are involved.
What sets our business apart from others?
Let’s be real darlings, I have had the blessing of working with so many different vendors in this industry, many of them are people I call friends, and that has helped me keep the belief in the community over competition. We all have something amazing to offer, and the truth is art is raw, real, and magical. It should inspire and move your soul in different ways.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
After taking the time to hone my style, business workflow, and fall back in love with photography, I want to continue to chase my dreams, wherever they may take me! I want to bask in the love and light of my clients and get back to the fun and thrill of weddings and styled shoots.
