Meet Jennifer Foster of JFoster Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Foster.

Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My passion for outdoor photography began at a young age. Camping and enjoying the outdoors as often as my family could, my Dad often captured our adventures with his 35mm camera. From the day he put a camera in my hands I’ve been capturing memories since.

A friend in my first-year high school photography “photog” class introduced me to sports photography where I began learning the art of a great action shot. This really prepared me for a job later on working in a portrait studio where 90% of my clients were full of life kiddos. You have to really know your way around your camera settings and fast.

After gaining an associates degree in business and photography, I decided to branch out. My daughter was an infant, and as a young mother, I needed to pursue my passion. My neighbor hired me for her son’s outdoor wedding at Cooper Aerobics Center in Dallas.

Gorgeous property, I love being there for people and capturing their memories that can be treasured for generations to come. From then on I was hooked. I enjoy photographing clients from when they say “I do” to their children’s birthday celebrations.

Has it been a smooth road?
Growing a business is challenging. The artist in me wants nothing more than to go out and shoot all day. It’s the balance that you have to get right. Staying organized, keeping a work schedule to include family time, and keeping up with new photo trends can get a little hectic but it can be done.

Although, I like to get the shot right the first time I set up a shot, look through the camera and hear that click, it sometimes needs a little digital love in Photoshop or Lightroom. Networking and word of mouth advertising, in my opinion, will always be the best way to stay connected.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JFoster Photography story. Tell us more about the business.
I’m a DFW area event and portrait photographer, Jennifer Foster.

A Dallas native who enjoys creating images that “Capture Life’s Moments.” I enjoy capturing those moments in relaxed, natural environments with detail focusing on individual characteristics as well as couples’ and families’ unique interactions with one another. Every interaction is unique.

From location scouting the place just right for a client to printing and framing the enlargement size to fit their space. I’m here for all photo needs.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Photography will always be valued in some form. Social media, trend or here to stay? I’ll be changing with the times Although I do miss the darkroom, the odor of fixer chemicals, and that magic moment where the developer bath changes your blank photo paper to a slowly appearing image.
