Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer LeMaster.
Jennifer, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I first saw this on Groupon, thought it looked really cool and wanted to do it. I never really found the time because my significant other and I were both working two jobs at the time. One day, I got curious and decided to look into what it took to become a licensee in the area.
After three interviews with the headquarters, a lot of list making on the pros and cons, and family discussions, we decided to take the plunge and become business owners. Little did we know, this was going to take off the way that it did! Within our first few months, our events were continuously selling out. We figured that something we were doing was going right and so we just kept on doing what we were doing – having fun! We were able to quit our second part-time jobs and focus solely on being great Plant Nite Licensees. Before we knew it, headquarters was coming to town to film us for advertising and we were headed out to Colorado to speak in the national conference only a few months later. To further add to our success, we recently decided to take the next step and expand our business into Oklahoma!
Starting in 2018, we’ll be having Plant Nite events all over the OKC area! We couldn’t be more excited for the opportunity and we’ve put so much passion into what we do, that it’s hard not to love attending an event.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like any business, our success had a lot of ups and downs. We recently completed our first year in the Plant Nite business, and we’ve learned a lot about what to do and what not to do. Luckily, I was organized and very OCD about details. But, there were things I had to learn the hard way such as not to rely on deliveries being there at exact times and how to manage logistics better. For instance, following tracking on a shipment that says “to be delivered by end of business day” doesn’t always mean it’s going to be there before 5 pm! However, we are grateful for the struggles because we learned so much and were able to pass it along to other licensees we’ve met along the way. It’s the “war stories” that built the character of our businesses and created the appreciation for when things do run smoothly.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Plant Nite – what should we know?
Our business is genuinely an experience! Many people have heard of the paint and sip concepts around their areas. We offer a very similar concept, except instead of painting, we teach you how to build tabletop terrariums! However, it’s not just a class that you’re attending when you attend one of our events, it’s more of a fun night out with friends or loved ones. We teach the basics; however, we also like to have fun. Our goal is for you to leave knowing that you not only built a great terrarium you can take home and show off, but to also make memories along the way. We are known for our succulent gardens, but we also offer a variety of different plants throughout the year based on the season such as herb gardens, air plants, and tropical plants. When you attend one of our events, you are attending a night out. You’re grabbing a cocktail and playing in the dirt as you express yourself in decorating your garden. What we love the most about our business is that at the end of the night, each terrarium is different in its own way. We guide you to a specific design, but at the end, it’s your personal touch that makes it unique to you and your experience.
As a company, we are most proud of what we offer our customers in terms of an experience. We don’t just want you to feel like you’re in a classroom, we want you to feel like you are with a group of friends doing a fun project and making new memories.
I think what sets us most apart from anyone else is that we are such a new concept and there is hardly anyone else in the market who offers this same concept that we do. Also, aside from that, we put passion into what we do and the events that we host, which is something our guests see. We want to entertain our guests, we want to make you laugh, bring out your inner creativity and build your confidence as you express yourself in your gardening abilities. Whether you have a green thumb or any other color of thumb, we want you to leave knowing that you have created a planter that you can be confident about!
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Passion! Passion! Passion! That is the characteristic we thrive to show our customers and what we believe has built our success! We became passionate about delivering quality events to our customers and building relationships with the people who attend our events. We are passionate about what we do and creating an experience that isn’t like what anyone else has to offer. I truly believe that our customers see our passion for Plant Nite and that is why we have become so successful in the DFW Metroplex.
